The year 2022 has begun on a sour note and the covid cases are surging at an alarming rate across the country. The spread of Delta and omicron cases has forced various state governments to enforce strict restrictions. Under these circumstances, the BCCI has been thinking over the schedule of the limited-overs series against West Indies. The Caribbean side will play a series of 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is against India in February.
As of now, a total of 6 venues- Ahmedabad (February 6)Jaipur (February 9), Kolkata (February 12), Cuttack (February 15) Visakhapatnam (February 18), and Thiruvananthapuram (February 20) will host the fixtures. However, BCCI is planning to reduce the number of venues to 3. Moreover, the measure will prioritize the safety of the players and support staff.
“Nothing has been decided as of now. This is a fluid situation and we are keeping an eye on the situation, and we will take a call at an appropriate time,” a senior BCCI official said to PTI.
The third wave of covid has resulted in the postponement of several domestic tournaments including the Ranji Trophy. Whether the IPL will return to its home is a big question in the minds of several fans. The series versus West Indies is scheduled to begin on February 6 in Ahmedabad.
The Caribbean squad will arrive in India on February 1. The players will next have to undergo mandatory 3-day isolation. The visitors will get two practice sessions on February 4 and 5 before they clash against the hosts at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera.
