In the recent days, Manchester United are going through an extremely bad phase. The club has been in their words performing starts in the past four years collecting only eight points seven game weeks. The club stands 14th in the table behind clubs like Fulham, Brentford and Newcastle United. Owing to all these, Manchester United management is contemplating the sacking of Erik Ten Hag. The former Ajax boss has been unable to lift the standards of the club and the players as well. All this factors have concluded a rage and disbelief among the fan base.
Now, the corridors of power have concluded their meeting in London, with Ten Hag’s future expected to be the hot topic. It is expected that the club’s executive committee is exploring options to overturn the club’s fortunes. Sir Jim Ratcliffe along with chief executive Omar Berrarda and sporting director Dan Ashworth was present in the meeting. Other higher officials from the hierarchy including Joel Glazer and Roger Bell were also a part of the meeting. The future of Dutch manager now seems to be at stake.
Options for United if Ten Hag departs
There are speculations for different names in case Ten Hag is sacked. Let’s have a look at the options available for the job.
Thomas Tuchel, Roberto De Zerbi, Mauricio Pochetinno, Kieran Mckenna and Thomas Frank have all been linked with the club in the recent past. However, Tuchel can be the most prominent figures among the list of available options. The former Chelsea manager is currently a free agent and is a perfect fit for the lattice of Old Trafford. Although he denied the proposal in the summer, a new round of talks can have a clearer picture of the scene again. The talks can hopefully re-commence in the coming days if the club’s hierarchy makes decision after Tuesday’s meeting.
Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher had his say on Erik’s future. He told Sky Sports,
“The start of this season hasnโt been too different in terms of performances, youโre seeing the same things we saw last season. Itโll be tough for him, but I do have sympathy for him. Heโs been hung out to dry on the back of the ownership talking to other managers in the summer.“
What’s next for Erik Ten Hag at Manchester United?
The international break will give an ample amount of time to United boss to have a thought about his tactics. It will be his responsibility to deliver results of the highest order by hook or by crook as the fixtures get intense with the coming time. Here are the upcoming fixtures of the Red Devils post international break.
Brentford (H) – Premier League
Fenerbahce (A) – Europa League
West Ham (A) – Premier League
Leicester City (H) – League Cup
Chelsea (H) – Premier League
Not only in the domestic league but also in Europe, the Old Trafford side is pathetic. The former English champions have only managed to play two draws in their two Europa League fixtures against FC Twente and Porto. Furthermore, there next fixture will be an away game in Turkey against a highly energetic Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce. Are they to drop points in that game, there path for direct qualification to knockouts will become a bed of thorns.
Other problems for Erik Ten Hag at Manchester
Besides all these, an updated injury list is a major woe for the club. Players like Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo had to pull out of international duty due to injuries. Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro and Mason Mount are already out for few weeks after sustaining injuries.
Despite all these conjectures, there have been reports that Ten Hag is busy preparing for game against Brentford. He has not received any clear indications for being sacked from the job. If he somehow is able to save his job at the club, it will become an extreme compulsion for him to deliver from the very first minute of the games he will be facing with his side.
