Bruno Fernandes to sign contract only if Paul Pogba Stays!

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes will commit his future to the club only once teammate Paul Pogba signs a contract extension.

The Portuguese believes that Pogba is intrinsic to United’s future, and is carefully monitoring his contract situation.

Pogba’s contract expired last year, post which United triggered a one-year extension, due to expire in June 2020. 

As things stand, the club hasn’t reached an agreement with the Frenchman.

FERNANDES’ IMPACT AT UNITED

After joining United in 2020 from Portuguese outfit Sporting, Fernandes been extremely influential for the club. He has been directly involved in an incredible 42 goals in 47 Premier League games for the Red Devils.

The Portuguese attacker has won the Premier League ‘Player of the Month’ award four times in his short United career. He also won the prestigious ‘Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year in his first season at the club.

In the current season, the 26-year-old has scored 24 goals and assisted a further 14 in 51 games across competitions. He has been a large contributor to United’s second position on the table, and progression to the Europa League semi-finals.

United want to tie Fernandes down to a new five-year old deal which would double his current wages to £200,000 per week.

However, the Portuguese wants to monitor United’s transfer activity first before committing his long-term future to the club.

Fernandes has strong fondness for his French team-mate and insists that Pogba has made him a better player.

The 26-year-old insists that they can contribute a lot to the team when playing together and their partnership will only get better with time.

The Portuguese firmly believes that when one plays with the best, his own attributes become stronger, referring to Pogba’s influence on him.

POGBA’S SITUATION AT UNITED

Pogba returned to Old Trafford in 2016 amid strong fanfare for a then world record fee of €105 million.

The Frenchman has since been an influential figure for the club in midfield, appearing in 193 matches across all competitions, scoring 37 goals and giving 40 assists. He won the Europa League and the League Cup in his very first season upon his return.

Pogba’s contract situation has been subject to a lot speculation in the media. Reports of him demanding an eye-watering salary of £500,000 pounds have come to the fore.

United are yet to decide if they would meet the Frenchman’s exorbitant wage demands, however would be wary of the fact that they might lose a key player in Fernandes if they are not able to agree terms with Pogba.

Fernandes and Pogba will play Italian side Roma in the Europa League semi-finals first leg on Friday, 30th April at Old Trafford.
