Can Axar and Sundar add to the all-rounder’s list in England?

Axar Sundar, Six Sports

The Board for Cricket Control in India(BCCI) recently released the 20-members squad for the upcoming World Test Championship(WTC) Final and England tour. Where there were some new additions to the squad few players didn’t get a chance in the side. Spinning all-rounders Axar Patel and Washington Sundar have performed exceptionally the last time they represented the country in tests.

Axar and Sunder have been given the opportunity to play in the WTC final, they will be playing test cricket in England for the first time. It would be really interesting to see how Axar and Sundar feature against Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja as an all-rounder in the WTC final and England series.

Ashwin and Jadeja have been an asset for the team over the years, they are the backbone behind India’s remarkable victory at home in Test cricket in this decade. R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been the Batman and Superman for India winning them matches and series one season after the other.

Axar-Sunder vs Ashwin-Jadeja:

In the previous home season when England played against India, Ashwin was a standout performer from the team he scored 189 runs with the bat which included a century, and took 32 wickets in the 4 match test series. Even Axar had a prolific test debut with the ball he took 27 wickets in just 3 matches.

Axar Sundar, Six Sports

Sunder emerged more as a batsman than a bowler his performance in Australia and against England with the bat was commendable. Unfortunately due to injury R. Jadeja missed the England tour earlier this year.

One pair is rich in experience and the other is the emerging one. The bowling styles of these pairs are similar to each other. In the coming years, it would be very interesting to see how these young players perform in the upcoming England series.

Missing the Spin Twins?

One of the most successful spinning pair of Indian Cricket in the limited-overs format Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have won many games together for the country. Their records playing together have been amazing.

Axar Sundar, Six Sports

This time the selectors went for Axar and Sundar instead of Kuldeep, it’s been a while since Kuldeep has played test cricket he is running out of opportunities. He is the only spinner to take a hat-trick in ODIs. Hopefully, we’ll soon get to see the Spin Twins.

After the suspension of IPL 2021 mid-way due to a spike in covid-19 cases, All the players have safely reached their respective homes. Soon the squad will re-unite to fly to England.
