Cesare Casadei is on the verge of being torn away by Chelsea. A move to Serie A, Torino FC, is looking increasingly likely for the 22-year-old midfielder, reported to depart the club this month.
The two sides are still in talks, meanwhile, Cesare Casadei himself has already stated his wish to join Torino. However, a sticking point remains: the transfer fee. Chelsea wants ยฃ20m with a buyback clause if they can bring the player back should he not work out.
However, Torino has put forward a lower โฌ12 million package that includes a sell-on stipulation if they can resell Casadei for profit again.
It’s an โฌ8 million gap that would be difficult to bridge, but there’s hope of a compromise. There will be further negotiations, and a deal will, if not in the middle of the two offers, likely land somewhere in between. Chelsea, of course, would like to recover most โ if not all โ of their โฌ15 million initial investment in Casadei.
In the summer of 2022, Casadei flew into Chelsea in great style courtesy of his move from Inter Milan for an eye-watering โฌ15 million ($16.7m). But his time in Stamford Bridge hasn’t gone to plan. He impressed following his move to the Premier League under Enzo Maresca in the Conference League but hasn’t been able to break into the first team regularly.
Speculation has also grown about his future because of this lack of playing time. For Casadei, it may give him more regular opportunities to show what he can do and earn a call-up to the national team if he does return to Italy.
Cesare Casadei back to Italy?
That could be a turning point in Casadei’s career as he moves to Torino. His skill set might boast its tactical flexibility rather than a fast-paced Serie A. Heโll likely start (and maybe fight for) a place in a team that finished tenth last term.
For Torino and Casadei, it was a promising young talent with a future ahead of him. He could give much-needed creativity and dynamism to their attack, and could also lift their midfield. On top of that, I a spell spent at what could be a great Italian club like Torino. This could improve his market value enough to earn a club a tidy sum down the line.
But there are some risks, too. It’s early days, but Casadei hasn’t yet shown him with his best foot forward at the very top level. Being a key player at Torino might mean different pressure to that of a limited role at Chelsea.
Chelsea looking to loan him
In addition, it can take time for a player to adapt to a new league and changing style for example, you would expect Casadei will need time to settle.
The move Casadei could potentially make has been dissected by several football pundits. Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole believes it’s the right decision: “He’s a talented player, but he needs regular playing time at this stage in his career.” Maybe a return to Italy will offer him the chance he needs to grow and flourish away.’
Most Torino fans are happy to see Casadei coming in. His arrival is going viral on social media as fans want him to put some creativity and life into their midfield.
Author’s Opinion
Chelski is continuing negotiations with Torino. The two sides are reported to want to agree on an agreement but a sticking point is the transfer fee. We should hear a further update either in the coming days or early next week on Casadei’s future, as talks continue in the days ahead.
It is a win-win situation for the player and the club. Torino gets a new top scorer, who can propel their attack for years to come, but also a talented Parisian teenager and Casadei gets a fresh start in a strange but familiar environment. They just have to figure out if they can bridge the gap there in negotiations.
