Cesare Casadei: Will Chelsea Regret Another Exit?

Chelsea are ready to say goodbye to Cesare Casadei forever amid links with an unsurprising move to Italy, and if you’re a Chelsea fan, then this news will surely feel like an old one… the painful one. It’s hard not to draw comparisons to that one infamous departure that still haunts the Stamford Bridge corridors: Mohamed Salah. Perhaps Casadei is the latest to slip through the cracks and flourish elsewhere. But we’re going to explore why the Blues might be making yet another mistake they’ll come to regret just as fast as Todd Boehly can say ‘transfer window.’

Cesare Casadei: A Star in the Making or Just Another Miss?

Last year, when Chelsea signed Inter Milan’s Cesare Casadei, they were being tipped to produce a future superstar. But the young Italian midfielder showed sparks of brilliance, especially on loan at Leicester City under Enzo Maresca. Let’s not forget the U20 World Cup last year and the Golden Boot and Player of the Tournament there too. Don’t hand those out like free snacks at Stamford Bridge.

And then why is ‘world-class’ talent being dispatched to Torino pronto, faster than Chelsea can spend £100 million on their next wonder kid? Casadei has only appeared six times for Chelsea this season and only failed to play in one of them. Giving youth a chance seems to be the club’s thing, as when they can—FIFA Career Mode.

History Repeating Itself?

This is something Chelsea fans will have seen before—and before you know it, they will know it’s the end, and it’s bad. Isn’t it wild how a few years ago we remember there was a Mohamed Salah that was brought to West London in 2014? He spent just 19 games at Chelsea, making more of a cameo than a leading role, before being loaned out and sold to Roma.

It’s a fast-forward to today, and Salah is now smashing records at Liverpool, hitting over 200 goals for the Reds. Chelsea fans are left wondering: ‘Wait … wasn’t he one of ours?’

And it’s eerily familiar, the case of Casadei’s potential departure. Torino are not budging, though, and have offered a cheeky €12 million (£10m), while Chelsea are demanding around €20 million (£16.6m). And if this goes through, Torino has themselves a bargain, and Chelsea a big blue regret.

Why Cesare Casadei Deserves a Chance

I honestly think Chelsea are not using young talents well. More game time is deserved for Casadei. He is a box-to-box midfielder with good vision and goal-scoring ability, which Chelsea’s midfield desperately needs. The nurturing is what they’ve been ready to provide but instead, they want to cash in.

Sure, we could loan him out again, but a permanent sale? That just seems like playing with fire. Of course, Chelsea has recently splashed the cash, but let’s not forget that that hasn’t necessarily brought success. Perhaps it’s about time Arsenal gave their youngsters some serious backing and weren’t so scared of panic buying the next big thing.

My Two Cents (Or Two Euros)

According to me, Chelsea is repeating history. Casadei feels like selling now, prematurely ending a movie before the big twist. Isn’t that what clubs have to do? I’d give Casadei a proper chance were I in Todd Boehly’s shoes (probably the kind with an ANWR Fidelias with over $1B in them).

But Chelsea has a knack for finding young gems—and a habit of losing patience with them too. Casadei could be the next Salah, without the excuse this time around, and the club won’t have any excuses. They know how this story is going to turn out.
