The highly anticipated Legend League Cricket is just around the corner. Fans are quite crazy to once again watch yesteryears’ heroes back in action.
The league will be conducted by an all-women officials panel. Former South African cricketer Shandre Fritz as the Match referee for all fixtures. Shubdha Bhosle Gaikwad, from India, Lauren Agenbag from South Africa, Humaira Farah from Pakistan, and Renee Montgomery from Hongkong will serve as the umpires for the 3-team tournament.
The Legends League Cricket: A Historic series to be witnessed
Netizens have lauded the efforts of the officials to push the sport a step further to be gender-neutral. As a matter of fact, that a men’s cricket league will be officiated by all-women match officials. Raman Raheja, the CEO of Legend League Cricket spoke about the major decision,
“Much has been spoken about uplifting and supporting women’s cricket over the years. ICC made significant steps last year in making Cricket gender-neutral. I think this was one such strong statement that we wanted to make by empowering the women officials to officiate the entire men’s league. They are all qualified and have been there right at the top level. I think we may be able to set a trend that will be picked up all over the world in days to come,”
One of the legendary sports stars of India, former captain, and veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami has been appointed as the ambassador of the league. She will advocate and encourage more participation of females in the most loved and enjoyed sport of the subcontinent. On being associated with the league, the Chakdah Express said,
“This is amazing. I feel proud and elated to represent the fraternity for such a wonderful cause and initiative. It was long due actually. I am looking forward to the Legends of the game taking on to the field once again and putting in their best to play competitive cricket. My best wishes to the match officials, I am sure they will do a brilliant job. This is going to be historic and path-breaking for Cricket as a sport.”
