Chalobah Injury: Chelsea’s Defensive Woes Continue

Chelsea’s injury list would be a never ending series of a Netflix show with a new twist on every episode. And the latest plot development? Injury means Trevoh Chalobah has joined the “Unavailable XI” for at least a week.

La bad news, manager Enzo Maresca said after Chelsea lost 2-1 to Aston Villa in Chalobah’s side picking up the knock. “He had a check yesterday and he’s coming back one week to 10 days,” Maresca said, a truth that sounded too bad to be as good. The good news? It’s not a serious injury. The bad news? The Chelsea player drain rate is 11 times faster than the Arsenal hope of a title rate in April.

Chelsea’s Growing Injury Crisis including Chalobah

Out goes Chalobah, leaving Chelsea injury ward far more congested than a packed rush-hour Tube train in London. Missing that match with Aston Villa are Nicolas Jackson, Noni Madueke, Romeo Lavia and Wesley Fofana. Chelsea fans will probably start to see staff filling in at right back at this rate.

Particularly, Enzo Maresca remains optimistic because he has no choice in the matter. ‘It’s a shame, we lose another player at this point with the amount of injuries that we had,’ he admitted. “It is good on one side because it’s not a bad injury.” The same way of thinking is as if I say, Yup, my car failed, but at least it didn’t blow up.

Filip Jorgensen’s Blunder and Chelsea’s Struggles

Chelsea’s current form is on an equally worrying stretch. But that proved to be their third successive defeat, Filip Jorgensen the guilty party as he gifted Villa a late winner. Maresca was keen to support the post of his keeper when asked about Jorgensen. Maresca explained that “he feels a little bit sad and upset because he recognises it was a mistake.” It is sad and upsetted for the Chelsea fans too but they keep their job if they keep making that mistakes.

With 12 games left, every match is a must win, although they are just one point off the pace as fourth placed Manchester City stand between them and the top four. No pressure, right?
