Chelsea have no release clause in contract of Cole Palmer on missing out on Champions League.
Cole Palmer has no release clause at Chelsea
The Englishman’s contract does not have any release clause if his team misses out on the Champions League next season. There’s nothing in the agreement that can be triggered if they don’t qualify for the biggest European competition for next campaign.
This is as per the Mail, which suggested reports that the Blues‘ player has a clause in his deal. The report claimed that if the club fails to make in to the top four, there’s a clause that will come into place.
The 22-year-old midfielder has 14 league goals and six assists so far this season.
The Mail report reads that Chelsea fans are worried about missing out on Champions League for their club. And majorly if they’re going to loose Cole Palmer.
Although, Confidential has claimed that there is no release clause relating to the Champions League in his contract. And Chelsea are not trying to receive any offers for the Cole.
Palmer extended his stay at Stamford Bridge at the beginning of the campaign. He will be there for the next nine years. And he will have improved terms as a reward for his record-breaking first season.
Cole Palmer and his Chelsea future
The young midfielder will surely leave the Stamford Bridge one day. Although that is not something that everyone around him are worried about right now. He played less than 10 Premier League games before he left Man City for Chelsea in the 2023 summer.
He was signed for a fee of around ยฃ45 million. For a player who hasn’t even played a match for the club, was criticised a lot. In the first few weeks, he only made three substitute appearances. That suggested that he was signed for the future. But things quickly changed and he is now a regular starter in the team. Cole is one of the key players in the squad.
He had six goal contributions in six games, showing his attacking abilities. He finished the season with 25 goals and 15 assists across all competitions. A year after that, Palmer has became his team’s most vital player. They saw just one defeat in their final 14 league games. And that was enough for them to qualify for European football.
Missing Jackson due to injury
Nicolas Jackson’s injury has been a very hard issue for the west London side. Although he wasn’t able to score regularly but all the pressure has been shifted towards Palmer since. Plenty think that he needs others help to play good football. The stance is that he should work on his individual performances. The club’s recent run of games have not been great at any end. That has led to rumours about Cole leaving the team in the summer.
Former players have also think that it might be a possibility.
Talking to talkSPORT, ex-Chelsea striker Loic Remy expressed his thoughts on his former team’s situation.
He said: “Chelsea players might fear that Cole Palmer will want to leave the club if they donโt compete for trophies because that is the nature of football.
“When I was at Marseille I left to join QPR because I had some value at the time, sometimes things happen in football and players move on. Palmer will want to win trophies and if Chelsea canโt do that then eventually he might decide to move on.”
Author’s Opinion
The reports of there being a release clause related to the Champions League may be false.
But there are concerns about Palmer leaving the Stamford Bridge at the end of the season. This might be too early to say but their performances in the recent weeks have been under a lot of scrutiny.
The main question is that will Chelsea manage to get into the top four and qualify for the Champions League.
