Chelsea and their “one sided love” for €40m Brazilian defender

Chelsea scouts like Nottingham defender, Murillo, and have suggested the board to sign him. The Blues’ have a massive squad full of talents but their they haven’t quenched their thirst yet. The management still wants to sell some of their players next transfer window.

Murillo is a typical modern centre-back with many key skills. The 22-year old is comfortable on the ball and has a strong physicality. However, he’s also a raw talent, so it remains a doubt whether he can adapt at a club like Chelsea or not.

The Brazilian moved to Nottingham last year for a price of €12m from Corinthians. Forest consider him key, and will not let him leave so easily. Therefore, this deal will be complicated and very expensive for any club which tries to sign the 22-year old defender.

The club’s scouts consider him elite and an upgrade over the likes of Benoit Badiashile, and Alex Disasi. If they fail to impress the boss this season, it is likely that they’ll be heading out of the Stamford bridge next season.

Murillo is currently happy at Nottingham and hasn’t entertained any talks for a move as of now. The Blues’ will now monitor his progress and make a move for him next summer. They were interested in signing him last summer but backed off last minute due to financial restrictions.

Chelsea to face serious competition from Real Madrid for Murillo

Spanish giants Real Madrid are keen on working on their backline next season. The club are interested in signing Murillo after missing out on signing Leny Yoro.

The Los Blancos will heavily invest in defenders next transfer window as defenders Alaba and Rudiger are aging rapidly. However, there’s a setback. The 22-year old has been very important for Nuno Espirito’s side and they won’t let him leave without cashing in a hefty price.

There were offers for him this summer as well, but Forest managed to keep him at the club. His mammoth €40m pricetag prompted many clubs to back out in the last moment.

La Liga has many financial restrictions for the clubs, and Madrid won’t be able to afford him if they’re asked to pay a mammoth price for the rather inexperienced player.

Murillo is under Nottingham contract until 2028, so the club is quite chill about this situation right now. If they’ve so sell him now, they won’t sell him without making a massive profit from the deal.

Chelsea are also reportedly interested in the young defender. Fabrizio Romano issued an update on this saga and clarified the situation. He says;

“So guys, I’ve seen the rumours about Murillo and Chelsea, and what I can say is that Chelsea are following several players in the centre-back position but no talks taking place yet.”

Maresca admits team is “not ready to compete” with Man City and Arsenal

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is convinced that the Blues’ won’t be able to compete with rivals Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal. The Italian manager has rather made a better start than his predecessors at the club.

The Blues’ have improved a lot but their poor defensive organisation can’t be overlooked. He understands that the club is in a transition period, therefore he has suggested the fans not to keep expectations of winning any trophy this season.

The manager feels that it’ll take time to reach the level of Man City as “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” He pointed out Arsenal’s example while explaining this situation. The Gunners’ trusted Mikel Arteta for five and a half years to reap the fruits now.

Maresca has arrived at the club just three months ago and he has asked for patience from the fans. The club is also quite unstable as they have spent £1.5bn across the last five transfer windows. However, all this big money signings mostly flopped.

Although the team is improving, the manager is adamant about the fact that currently there’s still a lot to work upon. Speaking at the press conference, he says;

“I really don’t think we can compete with City or Arsenal. I really don’t think that because we are not ready. The reason is that City has worked with the same manager for nine years and Arsenal for five years. If you want to compete for big things you need that time.”
