Chelsea have had their sights set on the transfer of Christopher Nkunku for quite some time. Even though Chelsea currently wants to buy wingers, they won’t hesitate if the opportunity to sign the Frenchman presents itself. Nkunku was set to depart Leipzig this summer. However, he decided to stay at Leipzig along with other target Josko Gvardiol. Timo Werner, returned to the team following two seasons at Stamford Bridge in which he won the Champions League and the Club World Cup
However, Chelsea are not the only club interested in signing the player. Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Manchester City are credited with an interest in the player as well. Chelsea had a bid for Nkunku rejected in the summer by the player. The Blues are on the market for a winger in the next transfer window. They are the most interested in signing AC Milan’s Rafael Leao in the next transfer window. However, the Blues will not hesitate to sign Nkunku if they have the opportunity to sign him in the window. Nkunku was the Bundesliga player of the season last year with 35 goals in all competitions for Leipzig. He is an exciting talent who will add a lot of quality to the Chelsea side.
Fabrizio Romano’s Chelsea and Nkunku claim
Writing in his Caught Offside column, Romano expects Chelsea to be one of the several clubs trying to sign Nkunku. However, Romano further claims that nothing is decided as of yet. Romano said:
“There will be many clubs in the race for Nkunku next summer, including Chelsea as they’ve always been interested and attentive to his growth. Nothing has been decided yet on the next step, it will be in 2023 – he will be one of the big names next summer.”
