Chelsea are ready to bring back their former player next season

According to TBR Football, Chelsea are ready to sign Marc Guehi back from Crystal Palace next season. The Blues had a very chaotic transfer window this summer, involving a lot of impulsive signings. However, Chelsea finally managed to build a squad with proper squad depth, in order to compete in multiple competitions this season. The latest additions of Joao Felix, Pedro Neto, and Jadon Sancho have improved the attack for the season. Chelsea’ new manager, Enzo Maresca, is serious about competing for multiple trophies this season, after a disappointing season last year for the Blues.

Chelsea were exploring the transfer market to sign another winger to improve their attack. The Blues had the option to sign Kingsley Coman. However, the club decided to sign Jadon Sancho instead of the French winger. This was a shocking decision after Sancho’s poor performance in English football so far. The English winger failed to impress the Manchester United manager, Erik Ten Hag. The player and the manager had a public disagreement before and things have not improved till now. Sancho was sent on loan last season to Dortmund. The English winger helped Dortmund to reach the Champions League final last season, before losing to Real Madrid. However, Sancho’s loan deal did not include a buy-out clause.

Guehi can return to Chelsea next season

Chelsea signed Joao Felix back from Atletico Madrid this summer. The Portuguese youngster was on a loan spell at Chelsea in 2023. New manager, Enzo Maresca, has long-term plans for the Portuguese winger. The youngster fits in the tactical approach of Enzo Maresca.

The are looking to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace next season, in order to improve their defense. Guehi is one of the most promising centre-backs in the Premier League, who also happens to be a former Blue. Guehi’s contract with Palace expires in 2026, and a contract extension looks unlikely right now. Crystal Palace reportedly rejected a £70 million offer from Newcastle United for the Englishman in the summer transfer window.

The defender is giving strong and consistent performances at Palace, but is open for a move to Stamford Bridge. Newcastle United are also still interested in signing the defender next season. Moreover, Liverpool and Manchester City are also shown their interest in the defender, after the youngster impressed in Euro 2024.

Chelsea will face competition from Premier League rivals to sign the defender. The Blues already have plenty of options in the defense. However, they are still looking for further reinforcements for the later stages of the season.

Competition for the defensive spot at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea seem dependent on the centre-back partnership of Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana this season. They also have Tosin Adarabioyo, Axel Disasi, and Benoit Badiashile for the position. The arrival of Marc Guehi can spark a big competition in the defensive position. It is difficult for Enzo Maresca to give suitable game time to all these players. Moreover, Chelsea are already struggling at the right-back spot, after injuries to Reece James and Malo Gusto. Fans are also concerned about the development of Wesley Fofana, who has had a turbulent performance so far for the Blues.

Fofana has great potential which has been affected by injuries in previous seasons. However, the centre-back has managed to stay fit this season. The signing of Marc Guehi can further cause problems to Fofana. Enzo Maresca has the responsibility to integrate Adarabioyo and Disasi into his plans as well.

The London giants are suffering from inconsistent performances at the start of this season. The Blues are still making silly errors, which gives an advantage to their oppositions. The equalizer against Crystal Palace was a good example of the casual attitude shown by the Chelsea players. Enzo Maresca will have to prepare the team properly for the match against Bournemouth, after the international break concludes.
