Chelsea are ready to start their new season on Sunday against Manchester City. The Blues have assembled an army of 43 men ahead of the new season. The club steals the limelight of the transfer window yet again! Europe has never seen a team build such a mammoth squad in the history of football. This is Enzo Maresca’s first season in charge of the Blues and there is no shortage of drama.

The club have spent £185m and made 10 new signings this season. Every football fan naturally gets excited when a new signing is announced. However, Chelsea fans have started to question the mindset of the board because this is simply absurd. The club runs in a business oriented fashion instead of an ambitious club. Stamford Bridge has seen as many as 20 departures this season which has returned profits to the club owners.

With only few day remaining before the transfer window closes, the club must register a 25 man squad to the FA. The club will not face problems registering U-21 players, who are most in number. This leaves them with 29 players, that indicates 4 experienced senior players will be excluded. Chelsea are keen on sellling Raheem Sterling, Trevoh Chalobah and Romelu Lukaku before deadline.

Assessment of the Chelsea transfer model: Headache for the coach

Chelsea have emerged as the biggest spenders in the transfer market this season. The plans of the club is confusing every football fan across the world. Since the Todd Boehly takeover, the Blues have spent more than £1.2bn on transfers, increasingly with a younger profile aimed at future resale value. This strategy has profited the owners but not the managers.

Managers before Enzo Maresca had huge squads as well. This situation never ends well for a manager. The coach cannot promise every player regular game time as its scientifically impossible. Having so many players creates chaos within the dressing room, and unnecessary competition within the dressing room. No manager could develop a proper chemistry between the players. This resulted in the players losing faith on the manager.

Chelsea have appointed and sacked 3 managers since the takeover. The new manager has been given a task of bringing back the club where it was few years back. The ownership will help the manager sign players but they have given a condition to the manager regarding player sales. The club will sign and sell players simultaneously to balance profit charts. According to pundits on Sky Sports, the club will go on a path of self destruction soon if this strategy continues.

Chelsea fans have grown frustrated with seeing players from their academy moved on in favour of less experienced and young players.

Chelsea are one of the biggest football clubs in England, not a brand! Just for the sake of making huge profits, the owners are killing the soul of Stamford Bridge.

Taking a look at the Blues’ army

After a hectic summer which saw players arrivals and departures in huge numbers, Chelsea have 43 players as of now. More signings are set to be made before deadline.

The club has 6 goalkeepers and 3 of them are experienced starters- Filip Jorgensen, Robert Sanchez, Djordje Petrovic, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Marcus Bettinelli, Lucas Bergstrom.

The club is keen on selling most of the keepers but offers are not coming as they had hoped. The backline consists of 13 defenders-

Axel Disasi, Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill, Tosin, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah, Bashir Humphreys, Reece James, Marc Cucurella, Ben Chilwell, Malo Gusto, and Josh Acheampong.

The club is desperate to sell Cobham graduate Chalobah to make huge profit off his sale. The club have boasts having 10 players in the middle of the park-

Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Omari Kellyman, Cesare Casadei, Lesley Ugochukwu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Romeo Lavia, Carney Chukwuemeka, Tino Anjorin, and Renato Veiga.

Cobham graduate Connor Gallagher may join the list too, as he has returned to London amidst talks of a transfer to Atletico Madrid.

The largest contingent of the Blues’ army are the forwards! 15 soldiers at the manager’s service-

Mykhailo Mudryk, Raheem Sterling, Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, Angelo Gabriel, Diego Moreira , Romelu Lukaku, Nicolas Jackson, David Datro Fofana, Deivid Washington, Marc Guiu, Armando Broja, Tyrique George, and Christopher Nkunku.

The club is prepared to sign more forwards and sell the likes of Sterling and Lukaku before deadline. The Chelsea squad is simply huge and will cause trouble to the manager as the season progress forward.

The Blues begin their Premier league campaign against Manchester City on Sunday in a much anticipated clash.
