Real Madrid and Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt in 2022.

Los Blancos allowed Sergio Ramos to leave the club on a free transfer over the summer, while Raphael Varane moved to Manchester United, with the Frenchman seeking a new challenge.

David Alaba made the move to the Bernabeu on a free transfer, but Carlo Ancelotti’s side are short of experienced options in the middle of their defence.

According to Calciomercato, Real Madrid are keen to strengthen their back line. They are planning to sign  Matthijs de Ligt in the next summer transfer window in 2022.

The 22-year-old has made 77 appearances for Juventus since arriving from Ajax. Three years are remaining in De Ligt’s contract with Juventus.

Chelsea are also allegedly weighing up a move for the Netherlands international, as the Blues face being priced out of a swoop for leading centre-back target Jules Kounde from Sevilla.

Will Matthijs de Ligt land up in Real Madrid or Chelsea?

Matthijs de Ligt has long been regarding as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe. The 22-year-old first rose to prominence in his homeland, becoming the Ajax captain. He helped the Dutch giants reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals during his tenure.

The Blues consider de Ligt to eventually be the long-term heir for Thiago Silva, who remains on a one-year contract. However, Juventus view the Dutchman as valuable and are unlikely to entertain offers at the moment. Moreover, Werner is understanding to be a vital part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans next season.

The report later suggests, Juventus might propose a counter offer to Chelsea, wherein they want €30 million in cash along with Jorginho. Meanwhile, the UEFA Euro 2020 winner is considered irreplaceable by Tuchel, similar to Juventus’ stance on De Ligt.

From an outside standpoint, a deal looks less likely given the current circumstances. Chelsea are not particularly looking at the left side of the central defence. The right side is a priority, and they are chasing Jules Kounde. However, with Kurt Zouma deciding to stay put, a deal for the Sevilla star has not progressed.
