Chelsea face a serious blow in their pursuit of Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan. The Slovak requested his agent to start negotiations with Inter Milan regarding a new deal.

The Blues were unsuccessful in landing Jules Kounde from Sevilla in the recent transfer window. Next, suggestions pointed to Skriniar being as a suitable alternative next year.

The center-back was linked to Chelsea, among interest from other clubs, following strong performances at the San Siro.

Chelsea to concede defeat in Skriniar pursuit

Tuchel’s men will be looking into signing both Skriniar and defensive partner Alessandro Bastoni. This comes ‘at the suggestion‘ of former Inter teammate Romelu Lukaku, who made the Stamford Bridge switch in a £98,000,000 move this summer.

However, Calciomercato reports claim that the 26-year-old has no desire to part ways with Inter. Instead, he is close to penning a new four-year contract running till the summer of 2025.

The Belgian and Skriniar were colleagues when Inter Milan lifted the Seria A title last season.

The 26-year-old centre-half allegedly refused an offer from Tottenham Hotspur to move to North London this summer.

Skriniar has drawn interest from England for a while now. Fabio Paratici spoke to the centre-back before the Lilywhites chose to go for Cristian Romero instead.

Spurs did put forward an attractive offer, allowing him to earn £3,400,000 with bonuses. It was not enough to convince the Slovakia international who opted to stay in Italy.

Skriniar has featured three times for Slovakia at Euro 2020. Since his move from Sampdoria in 2017, he has bagged 9 goals in 172 games for Inter.
