Chelsea face defensive woes: Badiashile out for a month with groin injury

Chelsea’s defense has taken another hit as Benoit Badiashile faces a month on the sidelines due to a groin injury. The Frenchman picked up the injury during Chelsea’s FA Cup win over Aston Villa.

Scans revealing the extent of the injury dashed initial hopes for a minor problem. It will leave Badiashile out for a considerable spell. He has already sat out 14 games this season across various competitions. This setback means he’ll be absent for crucial fixtures, including the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool on February 25, a blow to Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Badiashile’s absence comes at a time when he was forming a promising partnership with Axel Disasi. He was stepping up in the absence of Thiago Silva, who was dropped after a shaky performance against Wolves.

Chelsea’s Levi Colwill and Silva nearing a return to the first team

Former Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas had praised Badiashile’s abilities, calling him one of the best young ball-playing defenders in Europe. With Badiashile out, Silva might return to the starting lineup. Although, Levi Colwill could also be an option for manager Mauricio Pochettino as he nears full fitness.

Pochettino confirmed Levi Colwill’s progress but hinted at waiting for Sunday to assess his availability. While Trevor Chalobah is back in training, he’s not yet ready for first-team action, adding to Chelsea’s defensive concerns.

Despite these setbacks, Chelsea will aim to climb back into the Premier League’s top half with a win against Crystal Palace on Monday. Palace, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back from a heavy defeat to Brighton, hoping to relieve pressure on manager Roy Hodgson.

In summary, Chelsea’s defensive woes deepen with Badiashile’s injury, presenting challenges for Pochettino as they navigate key fixtures in the coming weeks.
