Chelsea Faces Rejection as Sporting CP Stands Firm on Gyokeres

Pochettino

Chelsea’s pursuit of Sporting CP’s goal-scoring sensation, Viktor Gyokeres, has hit a stumbling block as the Portuguese club rejected a reported £73 million offer from the Premier League side.

The 25-year-old Swedish international joined Sporting from Coventry City last summer. Since then he has been in outstanding form, netting 22 goals and providing 10 assists in 25 appearances this season.

Gyokeres, who initially impressed with 21 goals for Coventry City in the Championship last season, has continued his prolific scoring with Sporting, attracting the attention of top clubs, including Chelsea.

Recent rumors of Gyokeres and Chelsea

Reports surfaced this week suggesting Chelsea submitted an offer of £73 million, with additional performance-related bonuses.

However, Sporting swiftly rejected the bid, standing firm on Gyokeres’ £86 million release clause. In response to Chelsea’s interest, Gyokeres remained focused on Sporting, emphasizing his commitment to the club’s ongoing objectives.

Speaking to Sport TV, he stated. ” I am Here, and we have important games to play and we are focused on that. There’s a lot of talk on social media and elsewhere, but not focused on that. I don’t think about anything else. I’m here right now. 100% focused on this and the club.”

Sporting’s manager, Ruben Amorim, echoed the sentiment of rejecting Chelsea’s bid, expressing his lack of concern over the situation.

Amorim mentioned, “I don’t know, I didn’t even ask [director of football Hugo] Viana. Obviously, I was informed of the news. As soon as they said it was €85 million, I thought: ‘that’s not enough.’ It’s only €100 million [£86 million]. not worried about that.”

The rejection adds another layer to Chelsea’s quest to bolster their attack this month, with Gyokeres emerging as a target.

The forward’s impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, and Sporting’s steadfast stance on the release clause signals a challenging negotiation for Chelsea.

As the January transfer window unfolds, the football world watches closely to see if Chelsea will revise their offer or explore alternative targets in their pursuit of offensive firepower.
