Chelsea were fined after their players reacted in a disorderly fashion following Reece James’ red card at Anfield.

Chelsea have been fined £25,000 by the FA for failing to control their players in the 1-1 Premier League draw against Liverpool at Anfield on 28th August.

Referee Anthony Taylor sent off Chelsea defender Reece James after a handball on the goal-line. Mohamed Salah went on to equalise from the penalty spot.

Chelsea players disagree with Reece James sending off

Chelsea players were enraged by Anthony Taylor’s decision to send Reece James off. They felt it was not a deliberate handball as the ball deflected off his thigh onto his arm, and therefore not worthy of a red. Things got heated as the Blues failed to conduct themselves in an ‘orderly fashion’.

A statement from the FA read:

“Chelsea FC has been fined £25,000 for two breaches of FA rule E20.1 which occurred during their Premier League fixture against Liverpool FC on Saturday 28 August 2021.

“The club admitted failing to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 48th minute of the first half and following the half-time whistle.”

Kai Havertz scored in the 22nd minute to put Chelsea ahead. But, Mohamed Salah equalised from the spot right at the brink of half-time.

Chelsea went into the second half a man down, following James’ sending off. However, their 10 men defended admirably to hold on for a point. The draw meant that both sides are three matches unbeaten into this season’s Premier League campaign.
