Chelsea handed a new contract to Cobham graduate

Multiple sources are claiming that Chelsea have agreed to extend the contract of Jimmy Jay Morgan. He joined Chelsea academy at an young age.

Why Chelsea are extending Jimmy Jay morgan’s contract?

Jimmy Jay Morgan is center forward who plays for Chelsea U21 team. He started his career at the Southampton academy where he spent six years.

The former Southampton academy coach Louis Carey said that Jimmy Jay Morgan is a talented center forward who has all types of finishing ability in his repertoire. Carey admitted that the Southampton academy haven’t produced such type of talents for a long time.

Chelsea saw the potential in Jimmy Jay Morgan. So, they bought him for £3m. This is certainly a low amount of transfer fees for such a talented player. Chelsea are known to produce talented players from their academy which is known as Cobham.

Players like Jamal Musiala, Recce James, Declan Rice, Fikayo Tomori, Marc Guehi, Tammy Abraham, Conor Gallagher, and Mason Mount are the graduates of this Chelsea academy. Some of them have become the world-class stars.

Once he joined the Chelsea academy, he received a lot of praise in Under 21 as well as Under 18 Chelsea teams. Chelsea academy coach Neil Bath also praised him a lot. In 2023-2024 season, he was delivering one after another masterclass performances.

These performances caught the attention from Chelsea hierarchy. So, they decided to give him a new contract. According to The Chelsea Chronicle the contract is valid till 2027.

Jimmy Jay Morgan is recently raising through the ranks of Cobham. Neil bath has already spoken out about his qualities as a center forward.

He is a versatile player because the 18 year old Englishman can play both as a left winger and a right winger. Sometimes he can also play as a second striker. These abilities always help a team like Chelsea who are highly competitive in all tournaments whether it is a UEFA Champions League or an Under 21 Premier League.

Future of Cobham academy

In this transfer window the Blues have bought some seriously talented players. The list includes players like Tosin Adarabioyo, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and some talented youngsters such as Estevao Willian, Kendry Paez, Omari Kellyman.

It is clear that the owners are building a team for the future. In this transfer window Chelsea was forced to raise money because they were on the verge of breaching the PSR rule. So, they sold some of their young players such as Ian Maatsen, Lewis Hall, Omari Hutchinson, Dion Rankine. These outgoing transfers have certainly helped the club to avoid punishments for breaching PSR rule. Chelsea have earned roughly about £72 million the player sales.

On the other side academy players like Alfie Gilchrist made a place in the first team under Mauricio Pochettino. The fans are excited to see whether the new manager Enzo Maresca is going to utilize the newly signed youngsters or reveal a new talent from the heart of Cobham. This is a transition period for Chelsea. From club authority to coaching staffs, there are multiple changes inside the club. The Blues owner Todd Boehly wants to make a team that can win every single trophy.

The new project at Stamford Bridge didn’t achieve success immediately but we are seeing some positive signs of the Blues project. Last season, Chelsea finished at the sixth spot in English Premier League. Earlier no one expected that type of performance from the Blues.

Gradually, everything is coming into its perfect position. For example, the Blues have changed the transfer strategy. Earlier they used to go for players who has great hype. But now they are signing those players whom the squad needs.
