It is official, Chelsea have sold their centre-back Malang Sarr in this summer transfer window to Ligue 1 side RC Lens, the French club has also announced the signing of the player.
The 25 year old defender have signed a two year contract with an option to extend for one more year with the French club.
The French defender have joined RC Lens on a free transfer, the player have mutually terminated his contract with Chelsea without paying any fee, the termination was free, the player had a one year remaining in his contract with the club.
Chelsea does not want the defender to sit at the bench anymore
Last season the frenchman had spend all his time on the bench and not getting any minutes to play, and season before than Chelsea loaned him to French club AS Monaco. In his entire time at Chelsea he had only played for the Blues for 22 games out of which 21 were in the Premier League and one was in the FIFA club World cup.
Malang Sarr was a forgotten Chelsea defender, even the fans forget the player, but now he has officially ended his nightmare at the Stamford bridge by leaving the London club and joining the French side RC Lens. The 25 year old ended his run at Chelsea and now will start his new life at RC Lens, his time at the Blues has been the worst time of his life and in his football career.
When Sarr joined Chelsea on a free transfer in 2020, everyone praised the Blues and said it was a masterstroke, the player can really make a difference in the club, Malang Sarr made his name at his hometown club Nice in Ligue 1, he also played in the French National team, everyone thought transfer can really change the club but this did not happen as the player was unable to prove himself at the club and the year latter, the blues send him on loan.
Malang Sarr had the worst time in London
In his time at Chelsea, we only saw him making 21 appearances for the club, he was available to play last season, he wasn’t injured but still he was not given any game time last season at the club. He has not played in any single competitive match since May 2022, the highlight of his career at Chelsea is that, he was on loan to Porto and Monaco, but he never got a chance to play in a single match since he returned from his loan spells.
It wasn’t long enough that both Chelsea and Malang Sarr realised that their partnership is not working and can’t work together anymore. When he arrived at the club, he promised the fans that he will give everything to the club and will bring glory to the club. But none of this happened and he failed to make an impression at the club, the situation became so difficult even before the 2023/2024 season, the former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino did not gave any game time to the defender and not just that he did not even talked to player in the whole season, that was the time when his future in football was at risk.
The player got some hope in the winter transfer window, when Le havre showed some interest to bring the player to the club and back to Ligue 1, but the deal could not went through because of the mistake done by the Blues, they failed to file the paperwork before the transfer deadline, which lead the deal to collapse and Le Havre got very angry with this and lost the interest in the player and forced the defender to return to London.
