It was an action packed night on Thursday at Signal Iduna Park, with Manchester City finally lifting their curse and progressing to the next round but in the headlines it was Jude Bellingham who stood out over the two legged draw. He was the heart of Borussia Dortmund’s midfield. He grabbed a goal as well and this time even VAR could not deny him.
Chelsea are interested in Bellingham and will have to spend £100 million to prise him off Dortmund. They need a powerhouse midfielder like him who can play in different positions. Chelsea Head coach Thomas Tuchel who’s been known to be tactically adventurous would get the best out of him. He wears the number 22 because he can play the role of a traditional number 4,8 and 10. He would gel in Chelsea’s midfield easily and would provide a different class to it.
Thomas Tuchel in his coaching career is known to adapt to rival teams ,hence the name ”The German Pep” and Bellingham versatility would be key to his game plan. Thomas Tuchel’s record for developing youngsters has also been good,in turn attracting young players like the english international.
CHELSEA HAVE A DECISION TO MAKE: BELLINGHAM OR RICE?
Under Frank Lampard they were chasing Declan Rice who is a target for Manchester United for whom they would provide stiff competition, yet now it seems the generational talent would be better fit for the west London club.
Jude Bellingham was also praised by Pep Guardiola who jokingly said that he was lying about his age. After watching him play against his team Pep praised his leadership qualities despite being just 17 years old. He has now become the second youngest and the youngest English player to score in the champions league. He recently scored his first league goal for Borussia Dortmund in a 3-2 win at Stuttgart.
It seems Southgate’s decision to pick him ahead than the likes of James Maddison, Jadon Sancho is justified. His all round midfield game would suit Chelsea and he would fit well alongside players like Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante.
Chelsea suffered against Porto and with the likes of players like Bellingham added to their vast squad will make them title contenders, with fringe players like Jorginho expected to leave who’s age is catching upto them faster than they can sprint.
