Chelsea interested in Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic

Chelsea has inquired about Pjanic who could be a good addition to the Blues midfield. Barcelona under their former President Josep Bartomeu swapped Juventus star Pjanic and future club prospect Arthur with a €12 million additional fee, for which he got severely criticized. The Bosnian midfielder has found it hard to settle under Ronald Koeman.

The Blues might need another defensive midfielder who could be deputized for Jorginho/Kovacic in case any one of them is injured. Chelsea thinks Pjanic would be a cheaper and experienced alternative with their focus on landing a clinical centre forward.

Though many fans might believe that there is no need for another midfielder. They should look to the academy for solutions. Pjanic’s arrival at Stamford Bridge could limit the game time of Billy Gilmour who put in a mature performance for the Blues against their 2-1 win against Manchester City. They would want the Scottish international to be slowly integrated into the team.

Pjanic vs Jorginho

Pjanic could settle in the Blues midfield easily as a number six. He could pair up with N’golo Kante or Mateo Kovacic. Jorginho and Pjanic might be similar players with both being excellent with their one-touch passes but Pjanic may possess more depth when it comes to set-pieces

To date, Pjanic has scored 21 goals from free-kicks, 12 of which have come in the last five seasons. One-third of those strikes have come in match-winning situations, highlighting his ability to deliver in key moments.

The Bosnian midfielder has started just six times in the Spanish top-flight this season – struggling for regular minutes under Koeman. In his last full season at Juventus, he made 30 appearances from midfield and provided six assists, and scored three goals in the league.

Chelsea was also reportedly interested in the former Juventus man last season before his move to Barcelona. It’s claimed that the situation will be analyzed at the end of the season. The Blues will also have to fight off interest from Inter Milan.
