Chelsea ‘happy’ with selling UCL winner to London rivals

Kai Havertz would leave Chelsea to sign for London rivals Arsenal. But fans have rarely been missing him ever since the signing of Cole Palmer. The 25-year-old German has gone on to make quite a name for himself in the Premier League. He was a rising star in his Bayer Leverkusen days. The Blues would take note of his talent and sign him. Although the German prodigy was unable to find his best form at the Stamford Bridge. He would struggle big time and was unable to contribute to the team regularly. To be fair, those were not Chelsea’s best days either. But, the 25-year-old still managed to etch his name in the history books by scoring the UCL winning goal in 2021 against Man City.

Were Chelsea right to sell Kai Havertz?

The midfielder won the Blues their second ever UCL title. However, his form would downgrade over the years. Soon, he was unable to make his mark in the team. As a result, the Blues were willing to sell him. So much so that they were totally alright with the German star joining their London rivals Arsenal. At the same time, Chelsea ended up making ยฃ65 million from the sale of Kai Havertz. One might believe that this wasn’t the smartest of moves. Especially, since how the 25-year-old has managed to turn out under Mikel Arteta. But, at the same time, the fans can relax given how the Blues made an investment from the profit made.

Havertz’s exit funded Cole Palmer move

Owing to the midfielder’s departure, the Blues were able to sign Cole Palmer from Man City for merely ยฃ40 million. It is safe to say now that the Blue ended up getting the good end of the trade. As per transfermarkt, Kai Havertz managed to secure 44 G/A in 139 appearances for Chelsea. Meanwhile, Cole Palmer already has 55 G/A in 61 outings for the Blues. So no wonder that the fans do not mind selling their UCL winning star to their rivals after all.
