Chelsea leads the race for Brazilian star in big transfer news

Chelsea, according to reports, are leading the race for Rangers’ left-back Jefte.

Chelsea to sign a new defender

The Blues are claimed to be the front runners to sign Rangers’ defender Jefte, as per reports. The Scottish side is expecting for bids from other teams in the summer.

This January has been quiet for the Blues so far. The window is in its final week. This is the time where things pick up pace in the market.

Enzo Maresca’s side is yet to make any signing. Although, they have made a move for Strasbourg’s Mamadou Sarr. They have agreed on a deal for the player. Strasbourg has accepted the €15 million deal for the teenager. He is expected to switch in the summer this year.

Left back is surely the place which needs attention from them. There’s doubts in Renato Veiga’s future for the long term. The Fluminense defender certainly fits Enzo’s system.

He’ll be likely be available at a low fee and there would be high resell value, which is vital.

Chelsea leading the race for Jefte

It is quite seen that the club is looking for more attacking options this winter. They have been linked with youngsters like Mathys Tel and Liam Delap.

In the meantime, they are expected to add some strength to their defensive line. With Renato Veiga left on a loan deal to Juventus, their left-back position needs to be looked at.

There’s no back-up to Marc Cucurella as of now. Malo Gusto and Reece James have played there at times.

The London side surely needs to add a new LB this summer, if not this month. The Athletic reports that the club aren’t expected to make any defensive signings this month.

Rangers have got that reportedly the London team is keen for their player. They were expecting a lot interest for the Brazilian.

The report adds that Chelsea have made the initial contact with Jefte’s agents. They are in talks for a potential move at the end of the season.

The 21-year-old came from the Brazilian side Fluminense to Ibrox last May. He has been one of the best performers this season for them.

He has 34 appearances in all competitions. His current contract is valid until 2028. But it seems that Rangers will be willing to let him go at the end of the season.

Transfer updates for the final week of the window

Maresca’s squad surely needs changes after their inconsistent form in the recent weeks. Issues seem to be piling up but there’s very little action.

We are in the last few days of the window and the club is in very much noise. There is good amount of attention on transfer moves of Axel Disasi, Joao Felix and Jhon Duran.

The West London team is interested in Samu Omorodion from Porto. He moved to Porto for just over £15 million. And he could be available in the window due his teams financial struggles.

His release clause is £84 million as of now. Although the striker might be on the market for less than that.

Juventus’ Douglas Luiz was also linked to a move to Stamford Bridge. But that seems unlikely to happen this month.

Man Utd‘s Kobbie Mainoo was also in their list. The rumour hasn’t moved forward towards anything yet.
