Chelsea are continuously spending money in this summer transfer window to strengthen the squad. Till now the Blues completed the signing of seven players, five of them are under the age limit of 20 years. Only Tosin Adarabioyo of Fulham and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City are more than 24 years old. So, under Todd Boehly the Blues continuously spent money on young talents. New manager Enzo Maresca is also setting up his new Chelsea team as per his own playing style. And looks like Chelsea will sign more young talents in the upcoming weeks under the new manager.
Chelsea Legend’s statement over the Blues’ transfer strategy
Former English international suggests that new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca needs to change the transfer strategy. Legendary Chelsea defender Gary Cahill recently expressed his thoughts on Chelsea’s current transfer strategy. As the club right now only focuses on young talents, Gary Cahill believes that the Blues should sign some experienced players rather than signing only young players. Till now under Todd Boehly, the Chelsea team have spent more than 1B to bring the best young talents around the world. But club legend Gary Cahill believes that this strategy is not totally right. The Blues should spend money on experienced players, high-profile players, and players who can perform from the first day of joining the Blues.
According to the news published by Mirror, recently Gary Cahill expressed his thoughts on Chelsea’s signing strategy on The Sun, Signing a young player means investing at least two to three seasons with the new player. That means you have to wait till that time. But an experienced player can perform from the first date. Gary Cahill believes that Chelsea need to sign at least two to three experienced players in this summer transfer market, after that it is okay to spend money on young talents. Gary Cahill also says that young players need time to settle in a new environment and it takes time to give his best form, while an experienced one already had that experience.
Chelsea transfer strategy under new boss Enzo Maresca
Enzo Maresca wants to build the Chelsea team according to his playing style. But still, Chelsea are following their last season’s Transfer strategy, signing young talents rather than focusing on experienced players. Till now Chelsea completed total of seven signings, 2 of them is just above the age of 24 years. So, Chelsea are still following the same strategy under the new ownership of Todd Boehly. Chelsea already lost experienced defender Thiago Silva from the team, who left the club this transfer window as a free agent. Last season Chelsea had only 4 players above the age of 24 in their first-team squad. While Thiago Silva left the club, this number falls now.
Enzo Maresca is set to bring a new goalkeeper to the Chelsea squad who could compete with existing Chelsea goalkeepers Robert Sanchez and Petrovic. Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is their target. Filip Jorgensen is also very young, only 22 years of age. So, now the question is whether Chelsea will take advice from one of their own legends or continue spending money on young talents.
