According to El Nacional, Chelsea are lining up a shock move for Barcelona star goalkeeper Marc Ter Stegen. Rumours flying around also suggest that Barcelona are open to selling the German goalkeeper next summer.

Barcelona are still undergoing massive financial problems and may still have to let some of their remaining star players go next summer to break even. Barcelona have already lost star players like Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann and Luiz Suarez over the last 2 seasons. And are set to lose yet another stat player next summer. The Barcelona shot-stopper is also a target for Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Tottenham alongside Chelsea.

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen joined Barcelona in the summer of 2014 Borussia Monchengladbach. He has gone on to make 288 appearances for Barcelona and kept 117 clean sheets in the process.

Ter Stegen since his breakthrough at Barcelona was considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world. His constant performances and heroics were praised even during the tough times at Barcelona. But ever since his return from injury he has been struggling with form and inconsistency.

Ter Stegen’s drop of form for Barcelona

His save percentage has dropped to just 66% this season, the 15th lowest in the La Liga. The German goalkeeper’s inconsistent form has seen him drop behind Kevin Trapp in the German national camp. And if his poor form continues it could be possible that he misses out on the German World Cup squad next year.

Chelsea are likely to lose second choice goalkeeper Kepa next summer. Kepa is likely to look for a move in demand of some consistent game time and Italian giants Juventus are keen to bring him to the club. Chelsea also have one of the best keepers in Europe Edouard Mendy in their squad. Chelsea could look to sign Marc Ter Stegen to provide some quality competition for the number 1 spot.
