Chelsea and Liverpool seem to be next for a Saudi takeover. The Gulf state are willing to invest more in the Premier League. They already have planted the seed with Newcastle. As a result the Magpies were given a huge amount to spend in summer 2022. They wanted to break the traditional big-six. But the PSR rules would derail their plans altogether. As a result, the oil-rich investors are willing to move on to a new plan. They want to back a club from the big-six altogether. We are well aware of what financial power is capable of. Man City serve as a prime example in the PL. They have gone on to win 6 out of the last 7 league titles. So they have almost managed to turn the most competitive domestic leagues in the world to a farmer’s league now.
Chelsea or Liverpool?
Liverpool are currently owned by Fenway Sports Group. As per express, the owners are open to welcoming an outside investment after 14 years with the club. So this makes for an ideal situation for a Saudi takeover. On the other hand, Chelsea have their own problems in ownership. We have seen a battle emerge among Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali over control of the club. So the oil-based Arabians could try to make the most of the situation and acquire the Blues.
Where will Saudi invest next?
Both Chelsea and Liverpool are quite prominent options. The Reds have been on the rise in recent years. Meanwhile the Blues are still finding their way back to top form. But we clearly saw that Todd Boehly wants to continue with the club. At the same time they already have many young top talents from around the world on-board. So they could go without a big Saudi takeover. As a result, Liverpool could be an ideal option. But, the PL clubs will not be happy with another Saudi acquiring for sure. Also, there are some reports which suggest Barcelona to be an alternative too. The Blaugarana could really use the money owing to their financial issues. It will be interesting to see where the Gulf state invests next.
