Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is looking to bolster his attack with new additions but there is already a decent attacker in the squad.
Who is the forgotten star at Chelsea?
When Graham Potter was managing the Blues, Chelsea bought a young striker from Molde and he is David Datro Fofana. When he was playing for the Norwegian club, he was in red hot form which certainly caught the attention of Chelsea. So, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital group bought him for £10.6m.
After spending a season at Chelsea, he was loaned out to Union Berlin. In Graham Potter era, he spent most of the time in bench. He barely touched the ball in major games. Although he had a lot of potential but Chelsea managers failed to utilize him for several reasons.
On the other hand, his loan spell at Union Berlin was a disaster. According to football.london, there he scored two goals out of 17 appearances which didn’t help the German side. So, Chelsea again loaned him out to Premier League side Burnley.
Under the management of Vincent Kompany, Burnley got relegated from English Premier League. So, David Datro Fofana has experienced unsuccessful loan spells but he gathered the experience of English Premier League while he was playing in Burnley. At this moment, his one and only way out is to make a permanent place in Chelsea squad.
How Fofana can impress Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca?
There is a massive competition for the number nine spot at Chelsea. Last season, Nicolas Jackson scored 17 goals for the Blues which is a decent stat in his debut season. Now the question is whether the new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca will stick with the Senegalese striker or look for other options.
Nicolas Jackson loves to link up with his teammates but he misses a lot of chances. He could have scored 30 plus goals, if those missed opportunities were also converted into goals. If Chelsea want to win the Premier League, they will need a striker who can convert all the opportunities.
We have seen some glimpses of Fofana’s talent in a Chelsea shirt. From the observation we can tell that the Ivorian striker has a massive potential. He has a close ball control ability but he needs to improve his shooting and finishing abilities.
At this moment, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has Marc Guiu, Armando Broja, and David Datro Fofana as alternative options for Nicolas Jackson but all of them lack Premier League experience. On top of that, it is being said that Enzo Maresca has advised Marc Guiu to go out on a loan to Sevilla.
Recently Sevilla have sold their experienced striker El Neysiri to Turkish side Fenerbache. So, the Spanish giants need a young striker like Guiu which eliminates him out of the list. This is the perfect opportunity for David Datro Fofana to enter into the Chelsea first eleven.
Chelsea’s recent performance and David Fofana
Recently Chelsea have played their pre-season games under the Enzo Maresca. They drew against Wrexham United and lost against Scottish team Celtic. In all those games, the Blues were lacking a finisher who can score all the goalscoring chances. David Datro Fofana has a huge potential. So, he can be a striker whom Chelsea always dreamt of.
Although Marc Guiu tried his best to create goal scoring opportunities for Chelsea, it was not enough to win those matches. So, this is the perfect moment where David Datro Fofana can shine for Chelsea. At least he can show his talents to Enzo Maresca. If the Ivorian striker can prevail in this condition, he will secure a spot in Chelsea first eleven.
