Chelsea Look For Double-Swoop With City

Chelsea are looking to sign Nathan Ake from Manchester City. The Blues previously hold an interest in Raheem Sterling, and would like to sign Ake in addition to him. Chelsea will need to work on their defensive crisis this summer. Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger have already left the team. It is also anticipated that Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpelicueta would go. Trevor Chalobah and Malang Sarr are both somewhat inexperienced, and Thiago Silva is getting close to 38 years of age.

The West Londoners are trying hard to sign Matthijs De Ligt from Juventus. However, it is an expensive proposition and one which may not be successful in the end. As an alternative, they are looking at their former player Nathan Ake.

Nathan Ake never established himself as a starter in any of the Chelsea squads earlier. He went on a series of loans, before settling at AFC Bournemouth. His performances earned him a big-money move to Manchester City after Bournemouth’s relegation in 2020. However, the Dutch international has been utilised primarily as a rotational player. It hasn’t really worked out for him at the Etihad.

What Has Been Reported On Ake?

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea and City have begun formal negotiations. Todd Boehly hopes to seal the deal before the start of the preseason this weekend.

Thomas Tuchel apparently is a big admirer of Ake. He wanted to sign him during his stint at Borussia Dortmund. The German finds his versatility and ability to adjust to playing centre-half, left-back, and occasionally in midfield appealing.

Manchester City have put a price tag of £26m on Nathan Ake. This is a low amount, and Chelsea can surely afford it. It can be a low-risk gamble for the Blues. On the other hand, Sterling will cost Chelsea in the region of 50 million pounds. They recently saw a bid of £21.4m rejected.
