Chelsea looking to buy reinforcements this summer

According to SB Nation, Chelsea looking to reinforce their squad this summer and are targeting many players. It’s another new season in English football and the same old story. Chelsea are again linked with many young players this summer transfer window. However this time it will be not easy for Chelsea to go on a spending spree due to Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR) of the Premier League. These rules state that no club can use their revenue from sponsors or other sources of income for transfer business. The club needs to make some player sales before buying new players. Chelsea are also reportedly trying to sell some players this summer to make place for new players. Ian Maatsen is one of the players who recently made his way to Borussia Dortmund. Conor Gallagher is another player who can be sold this summer, he is not given new contract yet.

Chelsea will need to rebuild their squad as they decided to sack their manager Mauricio Pochettino. This was a very shocking and unexpected move from Chelsea as Pochettino was finally providing some good results towards the end of season. Pochettino greatly improved the attack of Chelsea with his tactics. Last season Chelsea scored 77 goals which is more than double their tally from previous season. However Chelsea suffered a lot in their defense. They had one of their worst defensive record in the club’s history. This is due to many different reasons. Chelsea took a very long time to sort out their goalkeeper situation. After Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was injured early in the season. Real Madrid decided to sign Chelsea’s goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga on a loan deal. Kepa was also injured in the middle of the sesason. However Chelsea lost their first choice goalkeeper with no instant replacement.

Chelsea looking to sign youngsters from English football

Chelsea are trying to implement the policy of signing young players for the future. They tried this approach in the previous seasons. Many people will believe this is a very good policy to have a secure future. However in Chelsea’s case this turned out to be a disaster. Many young players signed by Chelsea took good amount of time to adapt to the gameplay of Premier League. There was also injury crisis affecting many young players last season. Some players like Romeo Lavia have not played any minutes with the club yet. Chelsea’s big money signings like Moises Caicedo and Christopher Nkunku also faced injuries last season and were not able to perform at top form last season. These things made Chelsea’s season a lot harder. Chelsea were able to end up on sixth place on the Premier League table in the end.

Some sources are telling that Chelsea are interested in buying Fulham midfielder Adreas Pereira. After reports telling that Conor Gallagher is leaving this summer for Spanish club Atletico Madrid. Andreas Pereira will be a good option to fill that midfield position. Pereira is a former Manchester United player and the red devils still have a reported 20% sell on clause for the player. However he may not match the being young criteria of Chelsea’s transfer policy so the club will be looking for more options. French international Elye Wahi is also an option for the Blues. The youngster is a transfer target for quite some time now and can finally make his move to Stamford Bridge. Lens would reportedly want at least £30m for the youngster. Some reports also suggest 16-year-old Gabriel Mec can be a target for Chelsea. The youngster is a hot name in Brazilian football currently.
