Shim Mhueka is the latest addition to the Chelsea squad. The 17-year-old has now signed a professional contract with the club. The forward first joined Brighton as an academy player in 2017. Then he would go on to join the Blues in 2022. Since then, he has constantly been a part of the England U15 squad. Also, he has been progressing well and rising in the ranks too. Currently, he plays for the U19 squad for the Three Lions. It will be interesting to see if the forward is able to find a place in the first team.
Why did Chelsea sign Shim Mhueka?
The teenager will be a part of the squad facing Panathinaikos. Those will be some pretty valuable minutes for the young teenager. He will be keen to make his mark for the Blues. Especially after his form for the U18 squad last season. Football.london reports that Shim Mhueka scored 12 times last campaign. A goal contribution with the first team will surely make his confidence soar.
A wise choice?
Chelsea’s current policy is to focus on young players. The 17-year-old ticks that box. At the same time, he is very talented. He is a homegrown player. Manager Enzo Maresca has already made it clear that he can use Shim Mhueka in the center as well as on the flanks. Perhaps he could get some time on the field as a substitute. Hopefully, he will hit the ground running with the first team. We have seen Chelsea’s scout system do a terrific job this summer. Their youth academy is also doing a great job. Players like Tyrique George and Sam Rak-Sakyi are some of the prime examples. If the same carries on, the Blues will soon be a formidable side to be feared of. Fans will be hoping to see their team win some major titles now.
