Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has indicated that he could replace Edouard Mendy in the starting line-up with Kepa Arrizabalaga. The goalkeeper was ready to leave the Blues.
However, the player could not come to an agreement with the interested clubs. But, Thomas Tuchel is happy that Kepa is staying at the club.
MENDY IS STARTING TO MAKE MISTAKES EVERY MATCH
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has indicated that he might start Kepa ahead of Mendy in the future games of this season. Mendy has come under the scanner for making too many errors in the games. The error included a mistake he made that led to West Ham scoring and taking the lead. He also made a second error in the game which again led to a goal.
However, the goal was disallowed following a controversial VAR review. The VAR review ensured that Chelsea claimed a 2-1 victory against West Ham. However, the VAR review cannot make the Blues ignore the fact that Mendy has made mistakes in almost every game this season. Hence, there are chances that Thomas Tuchel will provide an opportunity for Kepa to prove his worth.
KEPA ARRIZABALAGA CAN STILL BE SUCCESSFUL AT CHELSEA
Kepa arrived at the club for a club record fee. However, he never managed to stake his claim in the starting line-up regularly. This made Chelsea sign Edouard Mendy. The Senegal goalkeeper since has been starting games for the club. Hence, Kepa made the decision to leave the club this summer. However, he failed to reach an agreement with interested sides for the transfer.
Tuchel said,” Yeah, he tried [to leave]. He tried, and he checked his options, which we were aware of. They were not satisfying for him, for us. So he stayed. He even said the goalkeeper is ready to start a game. Tuchel added that”I’m very happy about that. I was always very clear, directly to him that I’d love him to stay. And in my point of view, he’s absolutely ready to play.
Chelsea have taken10 points from the 6 Premier League games. They will now face Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday in the Champions League group stage match. There are high chances that Kepa will start the match ahead of Mendy.
