Chelsea eyeing a deal for Manchester United linked teenager

Chelsea are focused on signing young and talented players. The Blues have made it a part of their transfer policy in recent years. In fact, they are even willing to gamble on some ‘unproven’ players. And the system actually works for them. Because while unproven at the top level, their scouts are doing a fantastic job in screening real talent. For instance, the Blues were the first to notice Samu Omorodion. They even came exceptionally close to signing the striker. Now, the London side are keeping tabs on Chris Rigg. Although Manchester United are also willing to make a move for the teenager.

Who is Chris Rigg?

The 17-year-old is a Sunderland player making a name for himself in the EFL Championship. As a result, Chelsea have also begun to keep watching his development. The midfielder is already the youngest ever player to score and make 30 appearances for the club. At the same time, he is also a part of the England U18 squad. Many believe that he has the potential of becoming a top player. As per sportskeeda, Arsenal, Brighton and even Wolves are in contention to sign the youngster.

Will Chelsea be able to sign him?

Manchester United were the first to take notice of the 17-year-old. And they also believe that he is a similar player to Roy Keane. But it is not a first-come-first-serve type of a deal. So Chelsea have a chance of signing Chris Rigg as good as any. Sunderland are already aware of the interest. As a result they are asking for ยฃ25-30 million. We have seen the Red Devils not splurging since the INEOS takeover. So a high price could put them out of race. As a result, it is more than likely that the Blues may end up signing the youngster.
