Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez faces disciplinary action

Chelsea have started disciplinary action against their Argentinian midfielder Enzo Fernandez after he posted a video on social media making racist chants. Argentina’s national team again emerged victorious in the Copa America after beating Colombia in the final and won the trophy in the second successive campaign. After the match, Enzo Fernandez was spotted making racist chants in front of the Argentina fans, while celebrating their win over Colombia.

According to BBC Sport, the FFF (France Football Federation) said on Tuesday that they would complain about the activity. The FFF also informed that they would reach FIFA for the racist song sung by some Argentinian players, which was posted on social media.

Enzo Fernadez’s apology on social media

Meanwhile, Enzo Fernadez already apologized doe his actions and posted a note a social media. The Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez felt sorry and he wrote,

“The song includes highly offensive language and there is absolutely no excuse for these words. I stand against discrimination in all forms and apologize for getting caught up in the euphoria of our Copa America celebrations. That video, that moments, those words, do not reflect my beliefs or my character.

Despite Enzo Fernandez’s apology on social media, things did not change that much. According to BBC News, the FFF will contact the Argentina Football Federation.

While a FIFA Spokesperson explained the matter and said,

“We are aware of a video circulating on social media and the incident is being looked into”.

Chelsea Players’ Reaction to Enzo Fernandez

Enzo Fernandez played for Chelsea which have eight players in the current first-team squad who are either black or mixed. They are Fofana, Axel Disasi, Lesley Ugochukwu, Malo Gusto, Christopher Nkunku, Benoit Badiashile, Nicolas Jackson and Malang Sarr.



Well, Lots of Chelsea players showed their anger at Enzo Fernadez. Chelsea center-back Wesley Fofana, who has played for France, posted a photo of the video and described it as “uninhibited racism”. Another Chelsea player David Datro Fofana also expressed his thoughts on social media and he said,

“The football that I like is multi-ethnic. “Racism in all its forms should be condemned in the strongest possible terms. These acts have no place in football or even anywhere else.

While many players raised their voices against Enzo Fernandez, another Chelsea player Nicolas Jackson published a post on Instagram. The Chelsea striker showed support for the Argentinian.

While no doubt how far this matter can go, Enzo Fernandez could face serious outcomes in the future. The Argentinian is one of the key players in the Chelsea squad. Chelsea brought the Argentinian with a British record transfer fee back at the start of 2023. Chelsea is also looking into the matter.
