Chelsea offer Franck Kessie a lucrative contract

Chelsea have reportedly offered AC Milan’s Franck Kessie a lucrative contract to move to the Premier League. The contract is said to be worth €8 million (£6.9 million) a year.

The 24-year-old is now into the final year of his contract at the San Siro. This means he will be free to talk to foreign clubs from January if there is no agreement over a new deal with Milan. With his current deal set to expire next June, a number of clubs are monitoring the situation around him.

According to Sport Mediaset journalist (via CalcioMercato) Claudio Raimondi, there is a serious interest from Chelsea, who made a ‘sensational’ offer to AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie.

Raimondi says that the Blues have offered Kessie €8 million (£6.9 million) a year, which is a significant increase from what he currently earns at Milan – €2.2 million (£1.9 million).

Why do Chelsea value Kessie so highly?

Kessie joined AC Milan in 2017 on a two-year loan deal with the obligation to buy. Earlier this year, he scored two penalties in a 2–0 away win over his former club Atalanta. Thus, helping his side in securing second place in the 2020/21 Seria A campaign. As a result, Milan qualified for the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League after an eight-year absence.

The Ivorian midfielder has greatly impressed over the past 12 months or so. This has seen him strongly linked with a move to the Premier League.

Kessie is an absolute engine in midfield with a cool head on his shoulders. With his added passing ability and an eye for goal, Kessie would provide a great overall balance to the Chelsea midfield. There is also no doubt that he is more than capable of competing physically in the Premier League.

Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be in the race for the Ivory Coast international as well. He could be available to leave Milan on a free transfer next summer.
