Chelsea are facing serious problems with some of the players in their current squad. The Blues have spent around £300m in this summer and brought in ten new players in the squad. This leaves a bloated and confused Chelsea squad, with lots of options for a single position.
Chelsea are giving more priority to the young talents and all the young signings. This creates problems for the older ones including some of the high-profile players of the Chelsea squad. Chelsea are now offering Ben Chilwell to their Premier League rivals, Manchester United.
Chelsea are offering Ben Chilwell to Manchester United
Manchester United are facing problems for the left-back position. Two of the main left-backs of the United squad, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are suffering back-to-back injuries. While Luke Shaw could return before October, Tyrell Malacia will return in late October. Erik Ten Hag used Lisandro Martinez for the left-back position and Diogo Dalot for the right-back position in the match against Manchester City in the Community Shield final.
However, as soon as United completed the signing of Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich, Dalot was moved to left-back and Noussair Mazraoui took the responsibility of right-back in the opening match against Fulham in the Premier League.
Chelsea offering English international, Ben Chilwell, can solve United’s problems in the defensive positions. Ben Chilwell can be used by United to replace Luke Shaw.
Do Manchester United really need to sign another defender?
However, there is very little chance that Manchester United will sign Ben Chilwell from Chelsea this season. Erik Ten Hag signed four players in this summer transfer window and three of them are defenders, including Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui. So, it is very unlikely that the Red Devils will go for another defender. It seems like Ten Hag is happy with the options available for the defensive line and will be hoping that both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia will be back soon.
As there is very little chance of Chilwell’s move to Manchester United, this is not a good sign either for Chelsea or for Chilwell. Chelsea’s new boss Enzo Maresca gave his statement that he has no future plans with the English international and a new move will be the optimal choice for Chilwell.
Ben Chilwell also wants to leave the Blues in order to get more playing time. But with just merely one week left in the transfer window, both Chelsea and Ben Chilwell have to make a decision quickly.
More Manchester United and Chelsea stories
As the transfer deadline is approaching, Manchester United still need to sell some of their players. According to The Guardian, United midfielder Christian Eriksen is someone who could leave the club this summer. Anderlecht are one of the clubs that are interested in signing Eriksen. Apart from Christian Eriksen, another United midfielder, Scott McTominay, is also on his way to leave the club, as Napoli are closing in on the Scottish international.
Meanwhile, Manchester United started their Premier League season with a narrow win over Marco Silva’s Fulham at Old Trafford on the opening day of the new season. Erik Ten Hag helped the Red Devils to give them a good start in the league and secured all three points.
While Manchester United secured all three points, Chelsea failed to secure even a single point in their opening match against Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s men beat Chelsea by 2-0 with Haaland and former Chelsea player Mateo Kovacic scoring the only goals. Enzo Maresca will now face Wolves in Chelsea’s next match in the Premier League.
