Chelsea on a rampage! Portuguese star winger signs for the Blues

Portuguese winger Pedro Neto is on his way to the Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have signed him for £51.4m plus add-ons. As reported by the Athletic, the player will travel for his medical tests today. This deal is surprising for all of us as the Portuguese was mostly linked to arch rivals Arsenal and Tottenham. The West London side will also sign Samu Omorodion to bolster their attack this season.

Chelsea have been on a rampage in the transfer market this season. Neto becomes Chelsea’s 9th signing along with Dewsbury Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Caleb Wiley, Marc Guiu and Tosin Adarabioyo. They keep spending money in an attempt to become the best club in England.

The club could also rope in Victor Osimhen from Napoli by the end of transfer window. The board is supporting Enzo Maresca in the best way possible. Neto had a brilliant season for Wolves last year. He scored 3 goals and provided 11 assists in just 24 appearances. Although he was injured for the majority of the season, his stats are amazing.

Chelsea add the Portuguese star to their plethora of attackers with Palmer, Madueke, Mudryk, and Sterling as wingers. The West London club is probably the only team in the world with so much talent up front. If the team clicks this season, they are going to be one of the most dangerous sides in Europe.

Why did Chelsea rush for Pedro Neto?

Chelsea have assigned Enzo Maresca to bring the club into a position where it belongs. Rival clubs like Manchester City and Arsenal are far ahead of them in the race. Therefore, the manager has specifically demanded the signing of Pedro Neto from Wolves. The Portuguese is a type of player who can play anywhere up top. In the Premier league only Kevin De Bruyne averages more assists per 90 minutes than Neto.

Pedro Neto is a very efficient winger. His creativity on the pitch is simply sensational, his final passes are deadly. He is also a very effective set-piece taker. He provides brilliant crosses from the wing. His cross accuracy is fifth highest in the Premier league. If Chelsea sign a box striker, having an aggressive winger like the Portuguese is a must.

Wolves have struggled to find any sort of rhythm last season. Their season was very disappointing, but Neto was one of the shining stars in the team. Manager Gary O’Neill praised the player for his brilliant performances. He says;

“His attitude and approach since I have been here has been top notch, I can’t speak highly enough of him at the minute, I think he has been incredible.”

Chelsea lack a winger who is completely fearless. Maresca needs him to make those split second decisions which could turn games on its head. His lung bursting runs down the pitch, dribbling past players, will benefit the team. His end product is also top notch, we have seen him score plenty of bangers. This is a huge signing for the Blues, as they are building something great for the future.

Huge Problem Enzo Maresca and Co. must deal with:

Chelsea have been in turmoil for the past few seasons. Their downfall began since ex owner Roman Abramovich had to sell the club to Todd Boehly due to political tension in his country. The club has signed a lot of quality players and managers but none of them worked out. Rushed signings and expensive ones who did not deserve such deals have accumulated in the club which has increased the club’s wage bill, prompting them to sell most of them at lower prices.

Most importantly the dressing room scenario is not to the mark at Chelsea. The club has faced a lot of controversies recently because of silly mistakes by the players. We have seen experienced players fight to take a penalty amongst themselves last season. There is no such unity among the players. If we look at any champion team like Argentina or Real Madrid, the unity among the players is clearly visible. The relationship off the pitch affects the relationship on the pitch as well.

The manager’s aim should be to create a family inside the dressing room. He should be able to do it because he has seen how Pep Guardiola, Mikel Arteta, and Jurgen Klopp have created monstrous teams recently by creating unity among the team. Tactics is an essential part of the game, but if there is no unity among the players, Chelsea will not be able to be successful. If this one problem is solved, even the external problems won’t matter to the team.
