Everton hand lackluster Chelsea their second defeat in last four games. This was a must win match for Everton to keep their hopes alive of playing next season’s Premier League. The first remained uneventful. However, Richarlison capitalized just after the first half from a error from the Blues captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
Chelsea tried to equalize and came dreadfully close when Mason Mount’s shot hit both the posts but did not go in. Moreover, both Antonio Rudiger and Azpilicueta were both denied by a determined Jordan Pickford.
CHELSEA PLAYER RATINGS
Edouard Mendy 6/10
Remained completely untested in the first half. Moreover, his distribution was also neat. However, he could not keep away Richarlison’s shot and was led down by his fellow teammate Azpilicueta.
Cesar Azpilicueta 4/10
Made the error which ultimately led to Everton’s sole goal in the match. Took a good shot but was denied by Pickford.
Thiago Silva 6/10
Kept his calm throughout the match and looked like the only player to keep his composure unlike his teammates.
Antonio Rudiger 6/10
Got booked early on in the first half. Came dreadfully close to getting a second. However, he took a good shot which was again denied by Pickford.
Reece James 6/10
Tried to keep up his good form from his last match at Old Trafford. However, at times he overdid things which led him to give the ball cheaply.
Jorginho 4/10
Was dreadfully slow as always. His lack of urgency in getting to the balls was a point of soreness for Chelsea.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek 6/10
His daunting runs through midfield was a threat for Everton. Looked promising throughout the match.
Marcos Alonso 6/10
Tried to create space for him on the pitch but was neatly marked by the Everton players to offer him little space.
Mason Mount 5/10
Came dreadfully close to scoring. However, his number 10 role should be played by him with more vigour.
Timo Werner 5/10
Remained essentially ineffective through the match. Was unable make anything of the oppotunites provided to him.
Kai Havertz 5/10
He worked really hard to pierce the Everton defence but did not came close to scoring.
