Chelsea’s pre-season tour comes to an end with a defeat

According to The Sun, Chelsea‘s pre-season tour in USA has finally come to an end after they lost to Real Madrid. This now concludes their disappointing run of games before the season starts. The Premier League season is going to start in a matter of days. However, Chelsea are still looking like an amateur Sunday league club. The Blues managed to win only one game in the pre-season USA tour against Club America. Other Premier League teams like Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal are all looking ready and comfortable for the new season. Chelsea on the other hand are still looking like a struggling and lost team.

The situation is not easy for Chelsea as well. The club made a shocking announcement of sacking their manager Mauricio Pochettino on a very short notice. Pochettino was finally able to get his tactics right towards the end of last season. The manager cannot be blamed after more than half of the squad was injured for majority of the season. Many key players like Reece James, Christopher Nkunku were out for majority of the season. Chelsea did not have their first choice keeper for the whole season. This happened after Real Madrid first choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois got injured. Real Madrid signed Chelsea’s goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan.

Chelsea pre-season tour was the worst among Premier League clubs

Another reason why Chelsea suffered in the pre-season is because of their transfer policy. Chelsea signed a lot of youngsters in their previous transfer windows. Due to this many young players struggle to get enough game time last season. Many new signings were not effective enough and took a long time to get used to Premier League football. The constant change in starting lineup and tactics was also a problem among Chelsea players. Young players like Romeo Lavia did not manage to get a single minute of game time last season.

Chelsea also had one of the worst transfer windows this summer. The Blues and their management forced life long Chelsea player Conor Gallagher out of the club. This led to great outrage among the fans. Conor Gallagher played the most minutes out of any Chelsea player last season. The midfielder was also captain on numerous occassions. Mauricio Pochettino even labeled Conor Gallagher as an “irreplaceable” player last season. Chelsea also struggle to sign a decent striker this summer transfer window. The Blues were linked with Victor Osimhen for a very long time, However no official deal was made.

Real Madrid defeat exposed Enzo Maresca’s tactics

Chelsea lost to Real Madrid by a score line of 2-0 in their final pre-season game. Lucas Vazquez and Brahim Diaz gave Real Madrid a two goal lead. Chelsea managed to get one goal back with Noni Madueke’s effort. However this goal was not enough for Enzo Maresca’s team to pull off a comeback. With this loss Chelsea’s boss Enzo Maresca is under serious pressure for the next season. Enzo Maresca told Conor Gallagher that he was not included in his plans for the next season and will become a squad player.

Many football fans are now doubting Enzo Maresca’s tactics for the next season. After Chelsea’s loss against Celtic, the manager said his team are in a comfortable position for the season. However this statement is now looking far from truth. Chelsea are still missing their senior players Marc Cucurella, Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer. However it is still looking like a difficult situation for the Blues. There is surely a tough season ahead for Chelsea. Their opening match of the Premier League is against Manchester City who beat them 4-2 in the pre-season.
