Chelsea prepared to give up the chase for Christopher Nkunku

Chelsea’s board has decided that the striker is too expensive

According to reports, Chelsea have decided to give up their quest for Christopher Nkunku. Christopher Nkunku is a midfielder for for RB Leipzig. According to Sport Bild, the Blues were considering him as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku is confirmed to go on a loan to Inter Milan

Nkunku has had a stellar season with Leipzig last season. He contributed 4 goals and 2 assists in just 6 games. Nkunku also had a great performance in the Champions League where he scored 7 goals in 6 matches. He scored these goals despite there being two stalwarts of European football, Manchester City and PSG in their group.

His outstanding performance for Leipzig also puled the eyes of international chiefs. And he has earned six caps for France since his debut in March. The top clubs in the world are interested in the striker. Chelsea, Manchester United, PSG, and Real Madrid are just a few of them.

However, Chelsea is giving up the chase for Nkunku. The west London club has run into too many problems in the pursuit of the Frenchman. Nkunku’s price tag is set at £90m, a price which is touted to be too much. Most of the clubs interested in his services have already informed the player’s agent about this problem.

Nkunku to stay at Germany

Nkunku has signed a new deal for Leipzig. He has had a contract extension for two years. This means the contract will run out in 2026. But according to the same report, the contract has a release clause at a an achievable price tag. This ensures that world’s top teams can actually pay for the services of the player

Chelsea. on the other hand, will be looking to Thomas Tuchel. Nkunku has played with Tuchel at PSG. The club will hope that Nkunku’s experience with Tuchel has an impact on him choosing his club next year.
