Premier League side Chelsea look set to lose Belgium winger Charly Musonda, once labeled as the ‘next Eden Hazard‘ on a free transfer in the summer transfer window. According to Goal, Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma are keen to sign the Belgium winger on a free transfer in the summer.

Charly Musonda initially joined Chelsea back in the summer of 2012, alongside his two elder brothers. The winger was labeled as the ‘next Eden Hazard’. Both the Belgium players play on the wing and both are quite are skillful and agile.

The winger was supposed to be the next big thing and was really highly rated by the Chelsea faithful. He gave a really good impression of himself with the Chelsea U-18s and U-23 side. But several major injuries hampered the winger’s transition into a first-team player. Despite being at the club for over ten years now, Musonda has made just seven senior appearances for the Chelsea senior side. In this time, however, he has recorded one goal and two assists. The winger has been loaned out on plenty of occasions in hope of regular playtime and first-team action. But all the loan moves seem to have ended in a major failure. The winger did make 24 appearances and recorded one goal and three assists during his loan spell with Spanish side Real Betis. But that is still quite some way off the level of the expectations placed on the 25-year-old.

Will Chelsea be making a mistake by letting Charly Musonda go?

The example of Paul Pogba‘s free transfer from Manchester United to Juventus seems the perfect example in this situation. While Charly Musonda is not as young as Paul Pogba during his move. But the winger does have the quality and technical ability to shine in Serie A. A switch to Serie A might be the perfect move for the 25-year-old to revive his career.

Jose Mourinho has already got one former Chelsea forward firing on full cylinder this term. Tammy Abraham joined AS Roma in the last summer transfer window and has been one of the best forwards in the league this term. The 24-year-old has recorded 23 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions this term. (stats via Transfermakrt) Jose Mourinho will be certainly hoping to help the winger reach his potential and revive his career with a switch to Serie A.
