According to reports Chelsea are looking to sign former Manchester City midfielder Romeo Lavia in January. The Belgian joined Etihad in the summer of 2020, he left to join Southampton after two years spell at Manchester City. He only made two senior appearances under Pep Guardiola.

After moving to Southampton, Lavia has been pretty consistent for the Saints. He started Southampton’s first five Premier League games. He scored against Chelsea in a 2-1 win on 31 August.

The Belgian midfielder definitely has caught the eyes of the Blues who want to bring him to Stamford Bridge. Agent Haydn Dodge wrote in his column in CaughtOffside:

“One of the players at the top of their list to bring in, in January will be Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.”

Chelsea keeps tabs on defensive midfielder

Lavia is a defensive midfielder who plays with number six. He is pretty good at the defensive side of the game. The 18-years old currently holds a long-term contract with Southampton which expires in 2027. This could complicate things for Chelsea as they will have to lure him away with a big chunk of money.

Lavia missed pretty much of the season due to a hamstring injury but recently recovered and featured for 56 minutes in a 4-1 loss to Newcastle United on November 6.

He could be one of the players searched by Todd Boehly to bring young blood to the team. The Manchester City academy graduate is an important player for the Southampton, Chelsea going to have a hard time signing him in mid-season.
