Chelsea completed the move of Jadon Sancho on the transfer deadline day on loan from Manchester United. The Red Devils wanted to sell Jadon Sancho as there would be very little chance for him to get sufficient playing time under Erik Ten Hag. At that very moment, the Blues contacted Manchester United and signed him on the final day of the summer transfer window. However, Scottish footballer and former Chelsea winger, Pat Nevin, believes that the Blues should sign English international Jarrad Branthwaite instead of Jadon Sancho.
Manchester United tried their best to get Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton in the summer transfer window. The Red Devils offered several bids for the 22-year-old. However, Everton rejected all the offers as they believed that the defender deserved more. Ultimately, United ended up signing three new defenders in the summer which includes Leny Yoro from Lille, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui from German giants, Bayern Munich.
Pat Kevin saya that Chelsea should sign Branthwaite
The former Chelsea winger, Pat Kevin, recently expressed his thoughts on all the Chelsea transfers and said that the Blues should try to get Jarrad Branthwiate instead of Jadon Sancho, on priority basis. Branthwaite had an outstanding season with Everton last season. The English international made 41 appearances last season and also scored three goals during this time. Branthwiate’s brilliant performance with Everton even earned him a position in the England squad. His last season’s performance also attracted many big Premier League clubs and other European giants. During the summer transfer window, United tried their best but Chelsea never reached out to Everton for the availability of Branthwaite.
Pat Kevin suggests that the Blues should consider Branthwaite during the summer transfer window. According to the news published by Metro, Pat Kevin said,
“Everyone was talking about Manchester United being interested but if I was Chelsea I would have chased Jarrad Branthwaite rather than Sancho or [Pedro] Neto.”
“Do without the creativity to allow Chelsea to take care of the center-back position for a decade.”
Pat Kevin really admired Jarrad Branthwaite and believed that if the Blues were able to sign him during this summer transfer window, that would have been the best thing for them. Branthwaite is just 22 years-old, has huge potential, and continuously gives his best for Everton. All these qualities make him a perfect investment for Chelsea.
The Blues signed two new defenders this summer, namely Renato Veiga and Tosin Adarabioyo. But the signing of Jarrad Branthwaite will give extra depth to their defence and it will support the new owners’ strategy of signing young players rather than investing in high-profile players.
