Chelsea started their Conference League journey with a 2-0 win over Servette. After losing the opening match of the new Premier League season against defending champions Manchester City at home, the Blues turned things around with a win over Servette to start their Conference League. The Blues secured their first win in their last five games. Chelsea fans are happy about the final result and eager to see their team continue this momentum in the Premier League as well.

Chelsea beat Servette by 2-0 at Stamford Bridge

After struggling most of the first half of the game, Chelsea finally opened up the scoring after Christopher Nkunku scored from the penalty spot in the 50th minute. Former Leicester City player Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s timely pass found Nkunku, who was fouled Servette goalkeeper Jeremy Frick, immediately causing the referee to point to the spot for a penalty. Nkunku made no mistake and gave Chelsea the lead. Nkunku scored his fourth goal in his last eight games for Chelsea.

Chelsea doubled their lead 15 minutes before the full-time whistle, with Noni Madueke scoring the second goal. Madueke came on from the bench in the 57th minute and scored the second goal to secure the win for the Blues. Enzo Fernandez’s perfect time pass found Noni Madueke and the 22-year-old scored his first goal of this season. So, the second-half substitution from Enzo Maresca really helped the team to secure the win.

Servette caused some problems for Enzo Maresca’s side at the very end of the game and completed the game with more shots than Chelsea. However, Thomas Häberli’s side failed to score and Chelsea were able to maintain their two-goal lead. The Blues will meet Servette again on 30th August for the second leg match.

Filip Jorgensen and Renato Veiga started for the Blues

Filip Jorgensen started for the Blues against Servette. Mudryk also got a place in the starting lineup after his absence in the Premier League opener against Manchester City. Renato Veiga, the new signing, also started the match in the right-back position. The 21-year-old showed his versatility on the pitch, coming in the midfield often and getting involved in the play-making. He had a good game.

Former Fulham defender, Tosin Adarabioyo, also got a place in the starting lineup. Same as Renato Veiga, Adarabioyo also performed well, confidently dealing with all the crosses from Servette’s players.

Summer signing Kiernan Dewsbury Hall also had a decent game, but sometimes the former Leicester City man misjudged his passes, and therefore, struggled to maintain a good pass completion rate. On the other hand, Moises Caicedo had a really good game. The Ecuadorian completed 90% of his total passes and controlled the midfield very well to help the attackers.

More Chelsea stories

Chelsea finally completed the move of Conor Gallagher to Atletico Madrid. As a follow-up, the Blues signed Portuguese winger, Joao Felix, for a transfer fee of around £60m. With less than a week left in the transfer window, Chelsea are expected to make more transfer moves. The three of the senior-most players of the club, Romelu Lukaku, Raheem Sterling, and Ben Chilwell are expected to leave Stamford Bridge before the end of this transfer window.

Now, on 25th August Enzo Maresca will face Wolves, away from home to resume his Premier League journey with the Blues. Both of these Premier League sides lost their first match in the Premier League and would aim to come back strongly, by getting a win. New signing Pedro Neto could start for the Blues against his former club, in what would be his first start for Chelsea.
