While Chelsea have signed huge numbers of players in the last three transfer windows, the club has suffered a lot of player injuries lately. Another injury blow for Chelsea was that their newly signed goalkeeper, Filip Jorgensen, who suffered an injury during the international break, when the Danish goalkeeper represented Denmark-U21. Filip Jorgensen was taken off the pitch ten minutes before the game’s end, replaced by Andreas Jungdal.
Filip Jorgensen joined Chelsea in this summer transfer window with a transfer fee of £21m from the Spanish side Villarreal. Jorgensen played 36 matches out of 38 for Villarreal in the last season and made 6 clean sheets. New Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca wanted someone who could compete with Robert Sanchez. That’s why Maresca ended up signing Filip Jorgensen and brought in the Chelsea squad.
At the start of the last season, Robert Sanchez and Petrovic both joined Chelsea from Brighton and New England respectively. Sanchez started the season as Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper under Mauricio Pochettino. However, as the season progressed, Petrovic became Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper under Pohettino. Both Petrovic and Sanchez failed to impress and both failed to give their best in the last season.
Filip Jorgensen might not be available for the next fixture
So, when Maresca joined the Blues as their new manager, he wanted to sign a new goalkeeper who could compete with Sanchez and Petrovic. However, Petrovic left Chelsea to join Strasbourg on loan in this summer transfer window. Now, it’s all about Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen. Filip Jorgensen is yet to start in the Premier League as Robert Sanchez started all three matches for Chelsea. While Sanchez is doing the duty for the Premier League, Filip Jorgensen takes responsibility for the Conference League. The Denishman appeared both times in the Conference League for Chelsea against Servette. Sanchez conceded 5 goals in the last three matches while Filip Jorgensen conceded 4 goals in the last two matches.
With Petrovic leaving Chelsea and Filip Jorgensen getting injured, Enzo Maresca has to rethink the tea dynamics for the upcoming matches. For now, Robert Sanchez will be the first-choice goalkeeper for Chelsea. The Blues have more fixtures in the Premier League in the upcoming weeks than European football. So, it is expected Robert Sanchez will continue his appearances for Chelsea in the Premier League.
