Chelsea to try and sign Inter Milan star in January

Chelsea eye Denzel Dumfries as a target in the winter transfer window.

Denzel Dumfries is the man of the moment at Inter Milan. His solid performances and amazing work rate and attacking threat have forced clubs in the Premier League to pursue his signature. Now, according to Corriere dello Sport, Chelsea wants to revisit the deal for the right back in the January window. The Blues are open to loaning the 26-year-old to Inter Milan for the season before joining the blues in the next season

New Chelsea manager Graham Potter is a fan of Dumfries. He has given his approval to Chelsea to make a move for the right back in the January window. Tactically speaking, Dumfries fits perfectly into the Chelsea team that Pitter envisages. Chelsea’s solid relationship with Inter Milan will be of great help if this deal is to be completed. The Blues signed Romelu Lukaku from Inter for a deal worth 97.5 million pounds. However, Lukaku returned on loan to Inter after failing to make an impact in his stint with Chelsea. The Blues also brought in Cesare Casadei to improve their youth squad.

Manchester United are Chelsea’s biggest competitor for Denzel Dumfries signature. Manchester United have only Diogo Dalot as the consistent starter at right back with Aaron Wan Bissaka yet to start for Man United. Consequently, Erik Ten Hag wants to reinforce the right-back position of Manchester United. Chelsea on the other hand have Azpilicueta and Reece James as the options for the right-back position. Azpilicueta and James have signed contract extensions with Chelsea fairly recently. Azpilicueta has had his stay at the Bridge extended for two years whereas Reece James will stay at Stamford Bridge for six more years to come. Dumfries will be a welcome addition to the squad.
