Chelsea would go on to have a great summer transfer window. Now they are also planning to make some big moves in January. The Blues have had a good time in the attacking third this season. But they do seem to lack in defense. As a result they have failed to win against the big teams this season. So they will have to work upon their backline. Just recently, we saw Arsenal creating quite a few chances in the latest London derby. In fact they came terribly close to winning the game with the last kick of the game. Defense has been an issue for the Blues. They now wish to sign Tomas Araujo from Benfica to reinforce at the back.
Fabrizio Romano reveals what Chelsea plan to do
The 22-year-old center-back is slowly gaining a lot of attention. Many pundits and former players tip him to be a great defender. As per metro, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano would speak on the future transfer plans of Chelsea. His exact words were:
‘Chelsea are actively monitoring the centre-back market. Let’s see if it’s going to be January, let’s see if it’s going to be summer.’
He would specify that the Blues were looking for a new man at the back. But their exact timing of the move is still unknown. At the same time, the Blues did consider signing Tomas Araujo last summer. But Benfica were reluctant to let an important player leave in the final few days of the window.
What lies in the future for Tomas Araujo?
Top clubs are lining up to make a move for the center-back. As such a couple of Premier League clubs are ready to fight Chelsea in signing the 22-year-old. Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are keen on signing Tomas Araujo too. Although we feel that he may be a great fit for the Blues. He has the potential to turn into a regular starter for them. He could end up getting first team football at a top European team. As a result, he might just end up getting the exposure that could turn him into a top-top player.
