Chelsea transfer news: Conor Gallagher’s move is still alive, Ugochukwu joins Southampton

Ever since the summer transfer market opened, Chelsea have been in a hurry to sign new players, especially young players. Till now, the Blues have signed ten players and five of them are under the age of 20. Enzo Maresca’s side are on the verge of signing another young talent, 20-year-old Samuel Omorodion from Atletico Madrid. But that deal collapsed at the very last moment after the Spaniard refused to join Chelsea.

What next for Conor Gallagher?

Although Chelsea failed to sign Samuel Omorodion, the Blues are making progress to sign another Atletico Madrid forward, Joao Felix. And this move could ultimately help both the clubs. At the start of 2023, Joao Felix joined the Blues on loan from Atletico Madrid. So, if Felix joins the Blues, it will be his return to Stamford Bridge. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Portuguese winger is interested in joining Chelsea and also said “yes” to the contract terms.

Meanwhile, this move will also open the door for Conor Gallagher. Atletico Madrid believes that they will be able to generate around 60M from the Joao Felix move. The Spanish side could use that money to sign Conor Gallagher.

So, there is no doubt that Felix’s move is not the perfect replacement for Samuel Omorodion due to their different playing styles. Omorodion typically plays as a striker, while Felix is versatile and can play as an attacking midfielder or as a striker, but he’s most comfortable on the left wing. But Felix’s move will be better for Chelsea, as Felix has already played with Chelsea and has Premier League football experience, which is very vital for the Blues.

More Chelsea transfer news

Defensive midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu left Chelsea to join a season-long loan spell with Premier League side, Southampton. The 20-year-old joined the Blues last season from French side Rennes. However, the Frenchman struggled to get sufficient playing time last season under Mauricio Pochettino and made only 15 appearances across all competitions. As new players are coming into the Chelsea team, a loan move was inevitable.

According to Fabrizio Romano, there is no future for Ben Chilwell under the new Boss Enzo Maresca as Maresca clearly gave his statement about his future. So, with 12 days remaining in this transfer window, Ben Chilwell could leave Chelsea. Ben Chilwell was only featured a couple of times for Chelsea in their pre-season and both times the English international was used as a substitute player. Same as Lesley Ugochukwu, Chilwell also struggled to find sufficient playing time last season.

Chelsea are still in the race to sign Napoli star Victor Osimhen. Osimhen was linked with PSG last month before the French side signed Juan Neves from Benfica. According to Fabrizio Romano, Osimhen has agreed to all the personal terms of the Chelsea deal. In the meantime, Romelu Lukaku will join Napoli if Osimhen leaves the club. But there is no possibility of any swap deal as the Blues want two separate deals for these two players.

Enzo Maresca will face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Sunday to start his Premier League season with Chelsea. Lots of expectations are going on about the performance of the newly signed players. It’s not a great start for the Blues under their new manager. Chelsea secured one win in the last six matches including a 4-2 loss to Manchester City. However, Enzo Maresca and all the Chelsea fans want to forget what happened and want to look forward. The former Leicester City boss will try his best to get all three points.
