Chelsea welcome Newcastle United to Stamford Bridge for their game week nine fixture on Sunday, here is our prediction for the match.
Newcastle United will need to overcome a long-standing struggle at Stamford Bridge if they are to defeat Chelsea in their upcoming Premier League clash. The Magpies have only won once in 29 visits to the venue in the competition. Adding to their challenge, Newcastle haven’t secured a victory in their last four league matches, a dip in form they last experienced in March 2023 when they went five games without a win. Eddie Howe, however, has enjoyed some success against Chelsea. He has won two Premier League games against them as Newcastle manager, and four while at Bournemouth.
Chelsea on the other hand are on the back of a disappointing lose to Liverpool at Anfield. Despite dominating the match for majority of the time, the Blues succumbed to a narrow defeat. Anyway there are positives to take from the performance, they have to do just that and get back to winning ways as soon as possible.
TEAM NEWS
Chelsea
Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella are back from their suspensions and could feature against Newcastle United. After resting a lot of players during the midweek European match it is sure that Maresca will go with the strongest lineup in his hands. As per The Evening Standard there are no major injury concerns for Chelsea after the return of Reece James last week. So he will be with the full squad for the weekend.
After the midweek match all of their strong players will be back in the lineup. There is also an expectation that Chelsea would go with a few changes. Maresca might think of giving chances to different players this time. He can do that now with a full fit squad at his disposal.
Newcastle United
Newcastle United will be without Callum Wilson again after a setback in his injury recovery. Defenders Kieran Trippier, Jamaal Lascelles, and Sven Botman are also sidelined, leaving Eddie Howe’s side stretched for options.
CHELSEA VS NEWCASTLE UNITED PREDICTION
It would be really tough match for Newcastle United having been in such a poor form. Chelsea are expected to dominate the overall match. Newcastle will try to get the best out of the match but turns out it would be daunting task for Eddie Howe and his men. Harvey Barnes is going to be a crucial player again this weekend after excellent performances in the recent matches. The winger was involved in four goals in his last five away games. He has also scored in his last two trips to London, against Brentford and Fulham.
Meanwhile another Englishman Cole Palmer is the most important player for Chelsea. Even though he couldn’t make a major impact against Liverpool it is sure that he will be the first name on the team sheet. Another player who is expected to be at the thick of Chelsea’s attack is Nicolas Jackson. The Senegalese has received a lot of praise after the match against Liverpool. The striker also managed to score at Anfield at the beginning of second half for Chelsea’s equalizer. Todd Boehly’s choice of handing Jackson a new contract has paid off after the striker’s brilliant performances. We could also witness some new faces in the starting lineup such as Cristopher Nkunku and Pedro Neto.
POTENTIAL LINEUP
