Chelsea vs Servette: A new European chapter begins under Maresca

Last season, Chelsea finished in sixth place in the English Premier League. That is why they qualified for the UEFA Conference League. All credit goes to the players who performed well in the last season as well as to Mauricio Pochettino’s strategies.

Under harsh conditions, Pochettino brought Chelsea into the limelight of a European tournament. After the appointment of Graham Potter, Chelsea could have been relegated from the English Premier League, but Pochettino believed in his philosophy and saved Chelsea from an utter disaster.

Now the Blues have a new manager, Enzo Maresca. The fans are hoping that Chelsea will thrive under him.

According to OneFootball, Servette FC finished in the third spot in the Swiss League. On top of that, they also won the Swiss Cup. Chelsea have a solid opponent against them.

Condition at Chelsea

Chelsea will play their first match of the UEFA European Conference League at Stamford Bridge. Everyone will be excited to see this match. In the last match, we saw that Raheem Sterling was not in the squad, but we can assume that he will play in this match.

Sterling is an important player for the Blues because he has a lot of experience. Chelsea have lost some experienced players such as Thiago Silva, Mateo Kovacic, Trevor Chalobah, Conor Gallagher, and many more. That is why they cannot afford to lose more experienced players like Sterling. At this moment, the squad is filled with young players. Experience is all they need at this point.

Predicted lineup for Chelsea

Chelsea have now signed Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid. So, we are expecting the deadly combination of Pedro Neto, Joao Felix, and Cole Palmer. If things don’t go as planned, Raheem Sterling can come in place of Pedro Neto.

In the number nine position, we believe that Nicolas Jackson will be enough to deal with the Servette FC backline. Last season, we saw how the Senegalese striker performed against them.

In the midfield, Enzo Maresca can apply the duo of Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo. In the preseason, Romeo Lavia has impressed everyone with his sound ball-control ability and pinpoint long balls.

Felix is the perfect number ten for Chelsea because he is capable of doing creative things on the ball. On top of that, he can quickly move the ball. If Enzo Maresca wants to win games, he should play Felix in the attacking midfield position. Enzo Fernandez is a slow player, and that is why he doesn’t fit into this position.

On top of that, Fernandez is not decisive enough in front of the goal. His shooting accuracy is not up to par. Felix will be a perfect replacement for him. The Portuguese is an all-round attacking player who brings a lot of goalscoring opportunities.

In the defence, we are expecting to see Levi Colwill and Tosin Adarabioyo. Malo Gusto will play in the right back position.

Marc Cucurella will start in the left-back position. In the second half, Renato Veiga can replace him at the left back position, and for the goalkeeping position, we can see Robert Sanchez between the posts.

Match Prediction

We are expecting to see a dominating performance from the Blues. So, we are expecting a 3-0 win for the Blues. There is no doubt that Maresca’s team will have the majority of the ball possession, but they have to be more clinical in front of the goal.

In the last game, we saw that the Blues were very slow in creating goalscoring chances. They were too predictable with their moves. Enzo Maresca must look into these flaws to rectify them. We all want to see fluent, possession-based football under Enzo Maresca.
